Dad's BMW X6 stolen. Is this Insurance offer fair?

I thought it damned near impossible these days to steal a 3 Yr old car without having the keys. I imagine a factor of how it was stolen might affect the payout.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Theres a known issue with some BMWs that mean its possible - in fact quite easy.

I did think about that - but not applicable. That's a 2012 article on the then-current recall to fix problems on 2011-and-before cars. The OP's talking about a late 2013 car.0

The OP said it was a Dec 2012 didn't he?
Keyless entry cars have been getting hacked and stolen for years.
It is now so bad in West London that the Police randomly pull over newish Range Rovers to make sure they aren't stolen.
An X6 must have been stolen to order and is likely already in a container heading somewhere warm or is parked up in a quiet industrial area with false plates waiting to see if it has been fitted with Tracker and will then be broken up for parts.0 -
Just an extra bit of info relating to resale value.
The BMW PCO scheme currently give a guaranteed future value of under £25k on a three year old X6 retailing at over £56k.0 -
To be honest, as my dad rarely uses the car, I'm going to try to convince him to gets something smaller/more economical. It's down to him in the end.
Why try to convince him? If he wants to splurge all his money on new BMWs, then good luck to him - let him enjoy spending the money, that's what it's there for

Even easier with JLR vehicles.
In fact all keyless systems can be hacked.
As cars become high tech so do criminals.
Which is why I am surprised the car wasn't fitted with Tracker.
I had to have Tracker on my Jaguar. And the system was fitted by the first owner.0 -
I don't think insurers pay trade value either. OK, not a BMW, but I was still paid out 15-20% more than I was expecting when my car was written off.Je suis sabot...0

The insurance company is offering 33% off the value for a 3 year old vehicle. Bit gutting I know bearing in mind the mileage but as you say "that was your dad's choice" and as we all know "Vehicle value drops dramatically as soon as it's driven off the forecourt".
So is it such a bad offer after all?0
