You might have no document but you have your postmans word you handed a parcel to him ( never heard anything like this before!)

Since when have the delivery postmen accepted parcels to be returned? Is this some special arrangement you have with the postie.

My postmen (sometimes the usual guy is on holiday) will take letters and small parcels.

I think it's one of the perks of living in a fairly remote area. :)

Problem you have is that even though you got the items by mistake you are then left with a duty of care over those items.

Unfortunately you have went about it the wrong way but they might still arrive back at the sellers.

Was the sellers address on the outside of the package?

Did you out an explanation inside the package as to why it was returned?

As a side note, the retailer seem to think they can stipulate that they only accept cancellations by registered post. They also seem to think they're allowed to only advertise a premium rate number that costs £1.50 a minute to phone.

And also if you want a refund, your return must be received by their warehouse within 14 days.

They do seem to have a physical store address, but its not got a "suite 103", its just 1079 pollokshaws road in glasgow.

If it weren't for the physical store, I would've said they were complete cowboys (now i'm thinking more 90% maybe).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
