OK Zandoni, you've suggested the OP ignores other posters.

Have you any further advice for her?

No I didn't, I suggested they ignore the 'think of the children' remarks that fly around this place.

Yes, typically you only ever have a dig at other posters without offering any real assistance yourself. I can't see any good reason for you to be on this forum.

OP, I don't boil my kettle or use heat sources such as the toaster directly underneath the cupboards, it just seems to be common sense that either could cause delamination. There are very simple remedies available to you, but you've chosen not to use them, so I'm afraid you're suffering the consequences.

I only dig at other posters when they attack people coming here for advice.
  • They're not saying do it at the edge of your worktop, just to not let it steam away directly under the cupboards.

Obviously depending on the set up of the kitchen that can be easier said than done. It must be a very small kitchen with very little counter space if there's nowhere to place a kettle that isn't directly under a cupboard or at the very edge.

Sorry to disagree, but my kitchen is quite large and there are wall cupboards over all of the worktops except one - which is directly in front of a window and has no electric sockets near it. The kettle has to go under a wall cupboard as there is nowhere else. It was the same in my previous house (galley kitchen). My mum's kitchen is also quite a decent size, although not as big as mine, and has wall cupboards over the worktops, except for the one in front of the window, where there are no electric sockets. My daughter's house is the same, and so are my sister's and several friends' houses. It's not unusual to have wall cupboards above worktops. Our kitchens are different sizes and configurations.

OP, I don't have anywhere else to put the kettle either (nor do the others mentioned above), but I've never come across this problem before. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect your kettle to be towards the back of your worktop, under your cupboards.

The problem is that your definition of attack seems to encompass anything from mild criticism upwards, so your lack of discrimination makes you appear very negative.

Your trouble is you are so used to the way that people get picked on here that you can't see it.

People can be helped without being ridiculed, if they are asking for the impossible let them down nicely, just like most people do when they are face to face.

OP, this seems to be a badly designed kitchen IMO. When we had a new kitchen installed ,the company who came and did the layout and fitted the kitchen, said that we would need a space with plug points and no cupboards above, to use a kettle, toaster etc. They said that in badly designed kitchens stream often causes cupboard damage (also why cooker was under the extractor fan). I would have thought that in a newly built house that this would have been considered at the planning stage.

I am sure someone who is more knowledgable or has better advice, will come along ,but it may be worth obtaining a report from a kitchen designer and fitter, to state that the kitchen is badly designed and use that to support your position that the layout has a flaw.

Yes this is the same as my kitchen, all sockets are directly under a unit except one which is right next to the sink, which I did not think anyone in their right mind would plug in a kettle or toaster. Even at that the steam would still hit the unit. My steriliser unit I do pull out a bit from ndernesth unit however the steam still tends to hit the units. I'm not prepared to pull it to edge of the unit. I have never ever needed to do this in any properties before and I don't know anyone else who does! I would have thought that the kitchen units would be able to stand some steam. Just worried this is after 8 months what they will be like in a few yes!

Are your neighbours having the same problem? I've never heard of having to keep your kettle on the edge of the worktop to prevent steam damage. It doesn't sound safe.

Not sure about this issue but I know 3 of them are having huge issues with the builders re other things. One of their worktop is not level and another has issues with the units being uneven. I will check tho.
