Cast Iron downpipe for guttering - does it contain Asbestos?

Hi all,
I have a cast iron downpipe for the roof gutters.
It looks a little bit like this example:

Does it usually contain asbestos?
The reason why is I asked the guttering to be replaced and one of the guttering experts said I should have it replaced with a plastic one but they can't take the pipe away because it contains Asbestos.
I am a bit confused on what to do. Is it expensive to remove?

If it's cast iron, then no, there's no asbestos. Some guttering and downpipe is made from asbestos. It'll feel vaguely warm to touch, and have a rougher texture. Better descriptions may be available. It's not the end of the earth, but disposal can be costly. Keeping it in place is a practical option.
Guttering experts? Hmmm Are they a Guttering Professional?0 -
This is why I am really confused.
I am not sure which option to go for as one of the other 'experts' said I don't need to remove it and just replace the guttering without the downpipe.
What should I do?0 -
Take a magnet to the gutter. If it sticks, it's ferrous, i.e. cast iron.
If not, it's not ferrous, and so could be plastic or asbestos.0 -
Looking at that house it looks fairly recent, so it is doubtful it has asbestos rainwater goods. It looks more like plastic than cast iron. Cast iron will have a "ringing" sound when hit.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Does it leak? If not, why replace it?

Some bitumen paint has a minute trace of asbestos in it, I believe... So does some older lino, wallpaper, electrical switches, clothing, carpet, spectacle frame, bedding....0

That's not the OP's house. "It looks a little bit like this example:"No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I've removed some cast iron drainpipe. It's a lot heavier than you expect, even a small section. If you repair it's going to be a much easier job.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

OK so I put a magnet on it and the magnet didn't stick. So it's not a cast iron pipe?
Is it considered bad to have a cast iron pipe compared to plastic?
I mean my neighbours have the same.0 -
