A combo of factors, I don't like supermarkets, I don't have the time/inclination to wait in for delivery, I don't buy more than a meal or two in advance at a time from shops anyway, little and often is my motto! I've never been a fan of supermarket "deals" like 3 for 2 etc. I just buy one item eg packet of quorn. Nice and simple. My parents have a freezer full of the stuff as they always buy 3 for £5.
Then you won't know - what's 'normal!
The payment is not taken at the time of placing the order, it happens on the delivery date, after all the selection has been done, in accordance with the 'deals' that are valid at that date. the total when doing the order, is a guide. It may, for example not take account of multi-buys - only when it is picked will they know if there is enough stock. And, in the case of BOGOF, always order in twos - if you only order one, one is what you'll get, order two, get two, but only pay for one!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

Ah, I mean normal as in normal business practice rather than supermarkets specifically. I don't know of many other businesses that do that. Except, I guess, hotels when you book in advance but pay on arrival.
I guess it's all down to personal preference, but that wouldn't appeal to me.If my post doesn't appear to be serious, then it is not serious. So what? Kick back, relax enjoy life and have a little fun. Life is far far too short to be grumpy!!!!0 -
The worst of it is they could actually get someone an overlimit fee or an overdraft fee by carrying on like this.0

If it's that easy to check, why don't the supermarkets show the prices for your delivery date, not the current prices while you're ordering?0 -

They have the dates of the offers on the page.
Expecting it to recalculate all the pages based on a customers chosen date would be ridiculous.0 -
When I order from Tesco, if a special offer item is added it tells me (very clearly) if the offer will expire before the delivery date. Does this not happen to everyone?
What works for me is to place the order on Wednesdays (offers on most things seem to change at midnight on Tuesday) for delivery the following Monday, and double check it on Sundays.0 -

but you don't pay until its picked, Usually the next day, when you order online you aren't charged right away0 -
For the doubters amongst us:
Both the irn bru 2 for £2 and the Reese's nut bar offers (3 for £1.20) are still on the Tesco website.
I received my most recent .com order on the 18th.
Clearly there is an issue when goods bought within the stated offer period do not deduct.0 -
