Ordering Broadband for a property I'm purchasing

HI All

I'm currently buying a property & am hoping to exchange/ complete in 4 weeks or so.

BT currently have a deal on fibre broadband which ends in 6 days which includes a £100 pre paid card & I can also get £126 cash back through TCB.

Does anyone know if Im able to order it, given that I wont be the owner for x weeks?

Thanks

Thanks both, is it possible to specify a desired start date when ordering?

in my case I rung up and spoke to someone who cancelled my order , they are supposed to ring back today to take the order again (manually) ,, however the £100 voucher is web only , so I am watching for that

If you are moving to a new address, you should be able to specify a move-in date. From memory, I remember BT asking me my move-in date when I moved house recently (I ordered online). They should use your moving in date as the earliest date for delivery of your service as you are potentially affecting someone else's active service.

If you go with BT, I believe all of their correspondence is done via email. I certainly don't recall any post coming through when I set up with them recently - just a bunch of emails and some automated phone calls/text messages.
  • Post arriving in your name at a property you are buying is no problem, happens all the time during house moves as insurances and so on get transfered over.

Ordering before you have exchanged is, you aren't committed to buy the property and the vendor isn't committed to sell until exchange has taken place. If it falls through for whatever reason, you're stuck paying for a service you can't access as you aren't living there. I point this out as you wrote "exchange / complete" as if they happen together - they can, but not the cleverest idea as it gives no margin for error in case of last minute problems.

What he said. You'd be completely daft to sign up to a min term contract on a property that you may never buy-the vendor could pull out tomorrow without reason or penalty. Unless you are exchanging and completing on the same day, which is highly unlikely, then wait at least until you have exchanged before doing anything. The odds are you'll then have a 3-4 week window before completion.
Not to mention your vendor's annoyance if his service is cut off before he vacates the property...
