I have now had two emails supposedly from Virgin Media saying unless I click on the link my email account will be suspended in the interest of clearing dead and unused accounts.
The Computer antivirus says - this is a scam/threat.
This is only coming though on one of my addresses and I am still getting emails on both.
Is this a scam or for real?

  • Do you have a Virgin media account? if you do, ignore it as it says it will delete dead accounts. If you don't have an account it doesn't concern you does it.

That does not make any sense

Yes I have two Virgin Media Email accounts and I don't want them closed the email suggests it wants to confirm the account is still active.
But is is for real or a scam?

They said dead or unused accounts, do you use them? if not why do you want to keep them?

I found this on the virgin media site. From the 8th September 2014, you’ll need to access your Virgin Media Mail mailbox at least once every 90 days. This can be via our Webmail service, an email client such as Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail, or from a mobile device.

It's Spam. They don't send out emails closing customer email accounts, used or not, while you are still a customer.

aardvaak, same as any bank email or other confidential email: Dont use the phone number provided on the email, but google the number for the company instead, then call them and speak to customer services.

If you are worried, just access your email directly by going to the virgin webmail.
  • Virgin Media are going to know if someone is using their mailbox or not. They are going to have last access times, number of emails sent and received, etc.

It's like BT phoning you up to check if you use your phone.
