This is exactly the kind of reason why I now just go to Amazon as the default when I want to buy something rather than waste my time and money going into town. Town centre retailers need to up their game if they don't want to suffer even lower sales.

As an example, went into town earlier this week, first time for several weeks, with a shopping list as I've been saving up things I needed to buy. Clarks didn't have any shoes suitable for my son. School uniform shop didn't have his school blazer in his size. Waterstones didn't have the book we wanted. M&S didn't have any jeans nor T shirts in my size in the colour I wanted. None of the clothing stores had a suitable coat for my son. Result, a morning of my life wasted, £3 parking wasted, a fiver's worth of petrol, and all we had to show for it was a couple of sausage rolls from Greggs!

Until town centre retailers improve, then Amazon's dominance will just grow and grow.
  • Do you really think Argos warehouses operate very different from Amazon's?

Also the tax, I'm pretty sure that Argos' accountants use all the legal means available to reduce the tax burden to the minimum possible, just the same as Amazon do.
