SSE beating Martin today.

Hi Dannynolan
Absolutely not. I've posted elsewhere on the forum highlighting that the collective switch auctions aren't based on financials - we don't make any more money on a switch to a collective tariff to any other switch.
The decision making for auction looks at a combination of pricing, customer service and operational capability to handle a significant volume of switches.
Across all the collective auctions, the winning tariffs were market leading based on average price across all regions. We highlight across the site that the tariffs can be beaten for certain usage types and in certain regions.
However looking at Energy Club users the British Gas tariff was the cheapest option for the majority of our members.
I hope this explanation helps clear things up for you.0 -

Well for me, the SSE rates above work out over £100 a year more expensive than the MSE BG prices. I'm in the NW and nearer a 15:85 electric:gas ratio. With varying tariffs across regions, varying individual usage profiles, no single deal is going to be cheapest for everyone but that doesn't mean it's a con or there are dodgy goings on somewhere.0 -

Please note Danny Nolan had made a mistake on his figures and has now changed them - above are his original charges.
Well my prices on the MSE collective(Midlands) are considerably cheaper - the prices below include VAT:

Electricity is the cheapest I have seen, gas can be beaten by a few companies; however this tariff is dual fuel only i.e. you cannot have just electricity.0 -

Daily Mail collective switch with SSE is 12% cheaper for me than Martin's collective.
I am 65% gas 35% electricity. Which is roughly where Britain is.
I hope the 97,000 switchers have done their homework and haven't been sold a pup.
Sadly...
This is the SSE tariff I was quoted today by Daily Mail collective - a 12 month fix
electricity 0.1034200 per kwh
standing chg 0.2219100 per day
gas 0.0301400 per kwh
standing chg 0.2219100 per day
Greater London
Well unless Greater London prices on the MSE collective are far higher than the Midlands( and NW) - and this is not normally the case - there is no way that the SSE tariff can be cheaper. The BG has cheaper unit prices for both gas and electricity, also the DSC is cheaper for both gas and electricity. So for any consumption from 1kWh pa upwards the BG fix must be cheaper.
Perhaps you can post the figures you were given for the MSE BG fix that led you to conclude that the Daily Mail fix with SSE is 12% cheaper.
MSE Dan - have you got the BG fix charges for Greater London that you could post please0 -
MSE Dan - bump0

I'm currently switching from SSE via the Cheap Energy Club. If the projection is correct I should be about 40% better off.
And I'm in Scotland...A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
CHALLENGES
2025 Declutter:
1 CONTAINER (box/bag/folder etc) per day; 50/365
1 FROG (minimum) per week; 6/52

2025 Fashion on the Ration: (carried over from 2024) 10+66 = 76
2025 Make Do, Mend & Minimise No target, just remember to report!

so what are your tariffs then?0 -
The site doesn't even show SSE to me, but I have high electricity consumption. 8,900 kWh
Best quote on the site saves me about £80 less than mse and it doesn't list a £30 cashback so That's a £110 difference for the year.
Not sure if you can use other cash-back sites with energyhelpline so I cant say that the deals there cant get better, but for me at least the MSE site is still showing a better offer with BG.
When you guys compare also make sure that all the sites show your current tariff correctly, or for those sites that don't display it make sure they show "your currently paying" the same on all sites. I hate the sites that only focus on what you save and try to blank out what your going to actually spend (but that's found through most places so perhaps I should get over it).0 -
These are the tariffs for my BG Martin collective switch = Greater London
electricity 0.0853700 per kwh
standing chg 0.1890000 per day
gas 0.0284500 per kwh
standing chg 0.1890000 per day

This is the SSE tariff I was quoted today by Daily Mail collective - a 12 month fix
electricity 0.0941900 per kwh
standing chg 0.14790000 per day
gas 0.0232100 per kwh
standing chg 0.14790000 per day
Daily Mail SSE cheaper per day and much cheaper for gas, so for me 12% cheaper overall.
NB I posted the wrong tariffs (too high) for the Daily Mail Collective in my earlier post.0 -
