Cheapest way tp purchase sim free iPhone 6s

Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my broken phone to the iPhone 6s 16gb. I'm already on a good sim only tariff so just need to purchase the phone. What's the best and cheapest option around-anyone know of any good cashback links from quidco and the likes that will make the phone that little bit cheaper? I've noticed giffgaff have it for £499 at the mo, so cheaper than Apple and John Lewis at £539 but do I then need to sign up to giffgaffs pay monthly tariff, as I don't really need that?

Thanks!

You don't have to take a monthly bundle from giffgaff if you are an existing member with an active sim. If you aren't, do you have a friend/relative you trust who is and could order the phone for you?

If not, it isn't a contract, just a month's bundle. Buy the cheapest available and remove your card details/cancel the bundle so that it isn't renewed when the obligatory one runs out.

John Lewis have a 2 year warranty on most things so worth checking if this applies to the iPhone. If they do, it's up to you to decide whether the extra is worth it for extended warranty. giffgaff only offer the standard 1 year Apple warranty, though you should also check whether the phone as purchased from John Lewis will lock to the network of the first sim used in it. giffgaff phones do not.

John Lewis do offer the iPhone 6s with their two year guarantee.

Granted you'd be paying more than GiffGaff's current sale price but for the extra money I'd rather go down that route.

  • The best iPhone is from Apple, guaranteed unlocked, they offer finance which isn't too expensive.
I do like the iPhone, but don't own one as they are too expensive for me.
But please don't buy the 16GB version, it's memory is far too small, the 64GB version is the one to get. The OS uses up nearly 10GB, it doesn't leave you much for apps/photos.
  • cheapest way is from dodgy dave usually found in your local dodgy pub.

    10GB? Glad I've still got my 5s on iOS8.

64GB would be my next if I ever get another iPhone (currently have about 5GB free on a 32.). It is tempting to get something for £200 tops and not shell out for insurance, as I did when my iPhones were newer.

It seems to be more a percentage that the iOS takes rather than a set amount of GB, it's strange. My old 16GB iPhone 4 had about 13GB free running iOS7, but my 32GB 5s had about 27. That said, the iOS does seem to get bigger every year.

Apparently iOS 9 takes up less space than iOS 8 and they've brought out a feature called 'app thinning' that only downloads/installs the features needed (rather than the ones it doesn't).

iPhones are hardly money saving (and that comes from someone who has one himself) but Apple need to stop manufacturing 16GB devices and make them 32GB at the bare minimum.
