The maintenance loan is means tested. A rough guide to amounts:

    Household income Loan amount
    25,000 8,200
    62,180 3,821

    And various increments in between.

The GF is 27 - won't she assessed as an independent adult? Our household income wasn't taken into account when our son went to uni as a mature student.

She was going to university regardless of knowlege of money etc... nothing was stopping her, and why should it?

    No reason at all
    £9K tuition fees
    Roof over her head
    Mney to eat
    Money for books

Hopefully she's a bit more savvy than you are about it all.

Apologies I missed this, however the term Household income still roughly applies.

Independent students will still need to be means tested.

The guaranteed bit upto 65% they will get but for remainder needs to be means tested.

This is either the individuals income or the individual and their partners income, depending on their situation.

As the two people involved are still living at home with their respective parents, presumably it would only be the GF's income that was taken into account?

As the OP will be living with his GF, whilst she studies, his income will be used to assess her eligibility. Once you live with someone, who you are in a relationship with, you are no longer classed a being an independent student

That's only one option at the moment.
