Money help, girlfriend going to university

Options
Hi, me and my girlfriend this year will be moving to Derby from Doncaster, probably renting a small 2 bedroom house for 3 years while she finishes her course.

My question is will she get any finalcial help, she will not be work, I am on £24k a year salary.

Can anybody give us some rough figures of what she is eligible for, student loans etc, any advice is welcome!!

Many thanks

Perhaps you've posted here as a result of my post on your other thread, but wouldn't it have been a sensible idea to have asked these questions before she applied?

It's all on line - just fill out the calculator

It seems from the other thread no-one has actually thought about any of this in advance . I find it really hard to believe that anyone with the offer of a uni place has no knowledge of student finance or where to find it out.

If she goes onto the student loans website she can find out what sort of loan she can expect.
  • She was going to university regardless of knowlege of money etc... nothing was stopping her, and why should it?

You've posted on a money saving website. It is not financially savvy to go into full time education if you are going to end up in debt (beyond the usual student loans) as a result. Most students work alongside their studies.
  • Has she applied through ucas? As I'm sure when I did it explained finance and gave you details or it certainly did on my uni website.

some courses have bursaries, some unis give bursaries....she needs to look at her uni website under finance section.

Has she asked you to post or has she looked into this and not discussed it.? I only ask as I'm sure most unis tell you .

A lack of £9k would easily stop her.
  • Copied from my other post.

She needs to start applying for student finance asap.

How much she will get will depend on her household income.

Tuition fees are usually covered in full.

The maintenance loan is means tested. A rough guide to amounts:

    Household income Loan amount
    25,000 8,200
    62,180 3,821

    And various increments in between.

When household income reaches around 45k mark parental contributions are expected.

Because she'll have to pay tuition fees?
