I do one weekly online tesco shop which is delivered first thing on a monday morn. I make sure i've ordered for seven meals, I use frozen veg anyway and usually fresh meat but freeze it when it arrives. Then usually thursday nip to local Somerfield for top up on milk, bread, salad bits and they usually have some great deals on so I pick up a few of those...
This works for us whether kids in school or home.... We have been doing this for about 7 mths now and is by far the best method I have found. We all hate shopping anyway and the thought of trapsing round any shop, never mind a supermarket turns me cold..

i do my shopping generally on an evening when other halfs home to look after girls which means i get to go alone and not get distracted,i generally use my local shop for milk, bread, eggs and everything else i use morrisons.i do an occasional online tescos but if theres a good offer somewhere i will tend to go have a look:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I started shopping online at tesco about 6 months ago and its brilliant.I am not tempted at all to buy all the extra bits you see when you go in to the store,so I spend less.
I also always manage to find a great online voucher code so get £10 off or 1000 points almost every week when I spend just over £70.
I have my shopping delivered mid week when the delivery charge is lower.
The only thing I miss is the very occassional bargains I used to pick up instore at the reduced cabinet, but the money off codes and extra clubcard points more than compensate for that.
It so quick just having to click a box to buy the usual staples and I can look at all the special offers and BOGOF deals weekly too and adapt my shopping list to suit."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I never shop online, but if I had small children I had to bring with me or I didn't drive I think that it has to be the way to go.
There are three adults, one five year old and an elderly cat.
This month I have gone to Dunnes, Lidl and the oriental supply shop and spent a total of €186.05, but I have only now got to buy fresh fruit and veg, meat and milk so think that it will save me both time and money and I will only visit shops when necessary.

OK so as per my other post I shall be out of a job soon and have saved about £80 per month for essentials but I wonder if its better to shop once a month or daily/as and when (food/drink related)Lucylema x :j0

I do mine weekly after ive made a meal plan. I shop online and only order what I need.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982
In 2012 I pledge to:- Save £1 a day, meal plan, be more organised, have NSDs, set myself a budget AND STICK TO IT, throw all loose change into Sealed Pot and not open it till 29th November.:money:0 -
i have to live off of an extremely tight budget - so i have to be particularly careful when shopping for groceries
fortunately i grow a lot of my own fruit and veg and i make my own wine - so i make huge savings there
going to the supermarket has huge advantages - especially if you can buy stuff in bulk - which is usually much cheaper, but it is so easy to add extras to the trolley as you are going around - which can really mess up your budgeting
you have to be really well disciplined when using the supermarkets and doing the big shop - i have a list of the bulk items i need - go straight to that aisle and do not look at anything else - i will always look in the reduced meats section, just in case there is a bargain or two that could go in the freezer - but other than that - i try to be in and out in a flash, without deviation - although that is sometimes difficult
i have found that a trip to my village shop - although much more expensive per item - saves on the temptation on picking up extra items so if i am really tight on cash - a small shop suits me bettersaving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -
We tend to shop a couple of times a week (if necessary). Big shops tend to mean more wastage as we have very limited freezer space.
We've recently made a blackboard on which we make a list as things run out/get low which is then copied onto a shopping list and adhered to!It's only numbers.0 -
I grow fruit and veg and buy daily/weekly stuff locally but once a month go to the supermarket [or do an online order] for dried pulses, flour, fats.baking stuff, cat food. I make nearly everything we eat from scratch. a treat nowadays is anything shop bought!0

I shop daily, but Morrison's & Lidl are both within, bot opposite directions, walking distance, so I take a rucksack & walk, saves petrol & I get some exercise as well
Also means I cannot buy "big bargains" as not able to carry them home
About once a week I catch bus [free bus pass] to town [about 3 miles away] for Asda, Wilkinson's, etc. If I need bulky stuff, like loo rolls, or it is tipping down, like this morning, then car it isEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
