O/S Daily Wednesday 17 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he’s on half term hols.

Still dark, can’t tell whether we’ve had a frost or not – but not raining or too blustery at the moment!

Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg, ice creams for dessert. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost so tonight we’ll be having chicken, bacon and mushrooms in a creamy sauce with egg and veg fried rice or may just do mash and veg with it – I can decide later.

Work yesterday was busy – and difficult at times, had another awful case not that long before we were due to close – had a couple of occasions where customers got nasty – and there was several bouts of screaming and shouting – thankfully we were able to calm the situation, 1 on a telephone to another business but the other directed at one of my colleagues. Not sure what today will bring. Only working until lunchtime today and I have to say I’m looking forward to my days’ off – have all the normal stuff to do.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all.

Not my usual sort of nightmare woke me at 3am but not a nice one nonetheless.

Mother got me and my Brother together to talk and I punched him one....Not a reflection of my childhood I must say. I was always very protective of him and I hate the way things are between us.

Onwards and forwards (when the heating comes on)

    Have a great day all

    Morning All

Not nice out there but better than yesterday, quite a storm about 6ish. Washing can go on the airer.

Did lots of paper work when I got home, I put everything in a basket in the kitchen as a 'to do' tray, seems I've been doing that for a few weeks! Also watched the BBCs programmes about Chinese New Year, quite interesting, I plan to visit China later in the year.

Nothing exciting going on today, hope to go for a swim after work but that's about it. Take care. XX
  • Morning all. Thanks NMLC for starting us off. Your job sounds so stressful, I really feel for you. (I had a job like that and can sympathise)

Need to get my skates on this morning as we have an early appointment with the GP for Mr TA. He's not good with early starts and will have to be up sooner than normal for us to get there on time.

As soon as that's over I am meeting my friend for the postponed (due to torrential rain) day out to Skipton. We go on the bus, have a browse of the market stalls and charity shops and lunch and a bottle of wine in the Red Lion. We always enjoy it and chatter away non-stop all day! Rain (or possibly snow) was forecast for today but it hasn't arrived yet. Maybe it will miss us, says she hopefully!!

The second bowl of yesterday's corned beef stew is out for Mr TA's lunch, with a small crusty roll. There's still a bit of gammon left which I will use up in some concoction for his tea when I get home. I'll probably just settle for a sandwich if my friend and I have a late lunch.

I loved reading yesterday's stories of happy marriages (or otherwise!) and glad Jackie had a nice day and some happy memories with her family.

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

I think the rain has stopped, or it may just be an interlude. Yesterday was so awful again.

The builders ended up with wet cement again as they had to have the door open at times to grind down some bits of the floor and fit the metal cage in the mat well. They were very careful and put up a plastic shield to help stop the dust going upstairs. Inevitably there is a fine layer of it still but nowhere near the level of last time. And they left everything neat and tidy. All I need to do now is to finally sort out a piece of lino, I keep going to the shop only to find it closed.

Yes, the wedding theme was lovely to read. My first dress was a long cotton one in green and white with an A line so very busty. So unlike a 'proper' one! Scandalous!

As for today, it'll be a dust-a-thon I expect. Food is going back to no carbs and I have to be strict this time, too much faffing around and bring pathetic.

TA - have a lovely time in Skipton, it's so nice to hear of old friends still bring in touch.

I wish everyone a great Wednesday.

    Morning :hello:

We had a great day yesterday :D We walked past a couple of people on a narrow path, Scampi glanced at them and just carried on walking as if they weren't there, he ignored a pushbike and even kept quiet when he spotted a cat! I don't mind admitting that I don't understand that dog at all, lol.

The shopping's being delivered this morning so I'll have to make sure I'm back home in time for that.
It's been so cold lately but isn't too bad today, it's raining though. The house feels a bit stuffy and stale so I'll open all the windows to give the house a good airing and will damp dust downstairs. I have some Yankee candle melts, I'll use a couple of those for an hour this afternoon.

Not much to do today, I'll catch up with a couple of my recorded programs later.

  • Morning all, another paperwork at home day for me. Yesterday I worked hard and managed a lot, now to get everything completed.
Rapidly increasing rain here, perhaps it will cheer up later.
I am getting quite cold, even with several layers so may need to put some heating on, cannot type reports with numb fingers.
TA that sounds a good day out!
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning chums all's well and bright ,if a bit parky at the moment .Off to Canterbury with DD and family for the day today as the youngest wants to see the Thomas Becket site, I think its part of his history syllabus at school.DD has a stash of Subway vouchers so it shouldn't be too expensive a day fingers crossed
I shall wrap up well with a few layers though as its still very nippy. Hope everyone has a good day almost halfway through the week already ,time is just whizzing by just now and its Easter next month !!!

    Cheers chums

    Morning everyone,

Much the same here, had a reasonable nights sleep, think it helped that DOH had changed the sheets so nice to get into.

Today is my official day off, really hope to get over to see Bill as haven't been to the yard since Sunday and boy do I miss him but think will ask OH to take me over as wouldn't trust my driving at the moment. My other fur babies are not leaving me alone at the moment, little sweethearts they spend most of the day laying next to the sofa and seem to need a lot of reassurance from me, guess they are just not used to seeing their Mum sit still :)

I did enjoy reading all of the wedding / marriage stories, am not married to my man and tbh doubt we will ever go down that route. We faced a lot of opposition when we first got together, especially from my youngest brother who was best friends with my ex, I even asked him one day if he would rather I stayed in my unhappy marriage than upset the family and he said yes

Hope everyone has a good day, looks like there is some nasty weather on the way so take care all x
  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))if you need one. Any one who is under the weather I hope you are feeling better soon.

Re the wedding dress bit, first time round it was short pale lemon broderie anglaise with white accessories, net under skirts and white winkle picker shoes!! Second time much more sedate, dark plum suit and cream blouse, I had seen the suit in John Lewis so waited for the sale and got it for less than half price, no hat black shoes. OH outdid me in full highland dress.

We have rain this morning, I was hoping to get a load of whites out, forgot to put the washer on overnight, so they can wait till I see what the forecast is for tomorrow.

Cleaned out the fire and lit it, sitting room is a bit chilly but it will soon warm up.

I started yesterday reading a blog about a couple renovating a house in France, have gone right back to the beginning (2012) We would really have like to live out there, but financial restraints prevents it and then OH started with his dizzy problems, so no go........I am sad, I love France, we spent many happy holidays there, it would not have been difficult for us to live there full time.

No real plans for the day. I cooked the mince yesterday for shepherds pie, so just have to do the spud topping and the rest of the veg.

Out tomorrow morning its the U3A meeting, so it will be an early wise and shine.
