Switched from Voda to Life

I switched from Vodafone to Life Mobile and did wonder what pitfalls were about to fall upon me. In the past 2 years i know a few that have lost numbers and had to complain and spend time sorting it out.

Full of doom i got my PAC from Voda and paid my £6 to life and awaited the SIM, curious as to why it didnt ask for my PAC i phoned Life and the call was answered very quickly. Thats a shock after Voda.

Told no problem when the SIM arrives it will go live within 48 hours and contact them when it does to use the PAC. 2 days later Voda retentions call me and make a better offer but too late.

Number went live and i phoned them with the PAC, they gave me a day/time when it will go live and it went live a couple of hours early.

Phoned to disable the voicemail, but as i did that i received one so i needed to get them to enable it again, deleted the voicemail then called them again to disable it.

Daughter got texts from Voda saying premium services and roaming etc were being enabled i phoned them and it was not her phone but the one i ported out. But her phone was the one i opened the account with many years ago.

So far so good... The only issue with Life is you cannot change settings online, but they do answer the phone VERY quickly. When i phoned Voda to query the texts and activation of the premium content it took me 20 minutes in total.

Life was just a minute or two each time, except the final call to disable the voicemail completely where i must have got a newbie who needed to verify howto do it.

Each time though they have been very good, have a giggle when i said i just phoned to get voicemail off and i received on and cannot delete it..

Fingers crossed it continues.

And nope i dont work for Voda or Life, just thought this maybe useful for those thinking of changing. If Voda contacted me sooner with the Unl min & text and 3GB data for £10 i would have stayed with them.

But i chose Life £6 1500min, Unl txt, 1GB, which should be enough and only 1month contract.

Have to see how the battery life compares on Life and see the call quality.. No 4G though curious why that is?

So porting out can be painless..

I've just taken the same £6 deal today so it's good to see positive reviews from those who have just joined.

Before I did join I emailed and asked about 4G.

They said they are rolling it out now but it's oldest customers first so as a new customer we'll be waiting a few months. Still it is at least on it's way.

  • I phoned yesterday to port from EE and was told 2 working days. Woke up this morning with no EE signal, swapped sims and its all been done.

As with others, great customer service on the phone although online portal very limited. No 4g in my area anyway so that wasn't a factor.

Also got 2 sims for my daughters as they're great value and can also be capped.

    So far so excellent.

and I asked EE for my pac code, they gave it me after trying to entice me, but respectfully declined. My call to Life was painless. We both spoke in the same language so there was no risk of misunderstanding, there was no time delay due to distance and when I told him the phone I wish to use their SIM in is locked to EE, was told there was a 50/50 chance.

Today the sim is due to arrive. Tonight at 9pm it should be operational/live. If it fails, I continue to use my old sim in old phone.

I then get the EE Rook unlocked at my expense and use the new sim in it.

On Saturday Life are to call me to ensure all is well.

That's how I understand it. Will update later.

  • Just checking that you're trying the Life sim before calling Life back with the PAC code? If you've given them the PAC code the EE sim will stop working even if your old phone turns out to be locked.

I gave them my pac code when I placed the order, but they were NOT going to use it yet.

Sim arrived within 24 hrs along with welcome letter in which it clearly shows they have assigned me a different phone number so I called them via my landline.

It seems there will be a text come through later today. When it does, I have to call Life and to tell them the text is through and they will then port my old/established mobile number over.

It is my understanding that this has been done, to ensure I'm not left without an active mobile in the event that my locked EE Rook does not accept the Life sim. It seems it's only when the number is ported, that you cease with your outgoing supplier.

Does this make sense? if you feel I have got this wrong, then please show me where.

Remember if you want voicemail disabled delete any messages first :)

Silly me got it disabled and they said it can take upto 2 hours but right after the call i could not access the voicemail to delete it. silly me..

Just wondering whether to root the phone and remove the vodafone junk from it?

Amazed how quickly they answer the phone, when i had to call Voda after on another number i was on hold for ages.

I do hope they continue the same way, makes a change.
