Hi Dee
Just keep him at it. Now that the pressure if on more maybe he'll rise to it. If he rising at a rate of 5 % he just has to keep climbing. The maths is just practice, and more practice. If he gets a maths question wrong why not set him a few more of the same with the numbers or information changed a little so he gets those right next time. The same sort of stuff comes up every year. Our teacher said that some kids didn't get up into the high marks until October. If he is determined about it and working at it now, then he may well pull up.
We are doing no extra work now - just school set homeworks which are usually AQE type maths and english. There are only a few children is DS class not doing the test and two of them have SEN. DS said that the teacher is really pushing them in class now and also doing 2 tests per week in school. When he comes home he just wants outside with a football!0 -
In our favour the AQE is later than normally the way Halloween falls so hopefully they will all start to gain 6-8 more marks so as long as they peak at end of October. My daughter needs above 106 and I would feel happier with 100 and above so im not panicking till May but don't think its happening as she would need to be getting 85% at moment im just hoping it drastically changes. So whats tips have everyone got? Are you giving extra papers to do at home or are you concentrating on revising facts at home and leaving papers to school? My DD school do a test on Monday and one on Friday.0

Just going through the mistakes to see what can be learnt from them. Hard though as most are just careless mistakes. I am making a list of the silly mistakes - things to look out for eg answer am/pm, unit of measurement, clockwise/ anticlockwise, parts of speech in the context of the passage, reading if it says area/perimeter etc.. Encouraging DS to read loads (he already does love books) to build reading speed and vocabulary. Tempted to throw in an extra test at home but DS said he was tired after school so I eased off. Don't want to push him. We are going on holiday abroad the Halloween week so going to do 1 hour each morning and the rest of the day is holiday. Don't know if school will send home work that week.0

Hi everyone, I need my DD to get an extra 10 points in her papers, some are silly mistakes but I think she hasn't just got the hang of the aqe paper questions so for the last few weeks I'm just going to go over the different question types. Roll on the 3rd Dec I can't wait to its all over...0

Well last night my son got 70%, very pleased with the effort he is now starting to make even if it is a bit late!!
Jut wondering how much is his answers due to memory, I am giving him the past AQE papers purchased directly from them.
I am now just rotating them over and over again. I know the same maths questions especially come up year and year again.
He is still making really silly mistakes I have even seen him adding up a sum correctly and transferring the answer wrong on to his paper.
Oh well onwards and upwards hopefully

new to this. Just wondering where did you buy Past AQE and GL papers ? Is this enough https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0708719856/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=10 -
you can but actual past papers from AQE website but I haven't as school are doing them with my DD. I bought Transferni tests and they are fab0

My DD has done Fairfield papers, transferni papers and other types now she says she wants to do the actual past aqe papers, she is doing them with school but says they're the only ones she wants to do so as she can understand the questions better, can they only be bought from aqe themselves?0

Yes the real AQE papers can only be bought from the AQE office.
I didn't buy any though as they were being used in school. So far my son has done 9 AQE actual papers in school. His marks were about 5% higher the real AQE papers than the practices ones. He said they are easier than the Windmill ones. The transfer test.com ones range in difficulty. He said the real AQE papers were easier than the hard ones of these and about the same as the easy / moderate ones.
My DS said that the real AQE papers threw in some dead easy questions that took 10 seconds and help get ahead of the clock but some of the practice papers didn't have the easy ones and some of the maths questions involved more steps.0
