Just had an automated call from an 0800 number saying "This is BT - this is not a sales call - if you are the account holder please press 1 "

I ended the call and Googled the number - seems this has been going on since 2009. I guess that if I'd pressed 1 I would have been connected to a premium rate number?

So just a heads up in case this is 'doing the rounds' again

MAY be a scam -but that number 0203xxxxxxx isn't showing up on the normal sites for reporting scam calls.

Just had one of those calls from 0002078962583, supposedly from TalkTalk, (my provider). Bit worrying as they knew my name! Strangely I was expecting a callback from TT at the time about my ongoing lack of service so it threw me a little at first....soon realised tho!

And again just now ....another similar call but from 00102078962583 this time. It's strange but I only started getting these type of calls since reporting a total loss of service to TalkTalk two weeks ago....very suspicious!!

    January 28, 2016.
Three staff arrested at TalkTalk’s Indian call centre. The employees are accused of stealing customer data and using it to conduct phone scams.

This is an oft-repeated myth. You cannot be charged for a call to a premium number unless your phone dials that number in full.

    Hi Sham63

If you can contact us on twitter @TalkTalkCare or through our community pages on our website we can report that call for you.

I had a call about my router on Monday, after having some trouble with Safari being unable to get through.

Again the guy claimed to be from Talktalk and knew my name. He turned nasty when I challenged him and said TT were disconnecting me the following day. I reported it and the advisor was very good.

However, I remain concerned about leaks.

  • I prefer to just ignore calls like that. I always hang up everytime I hear them saying that they are from TT/Windows/Microsoft/etc. They all are liars.
