Beware - 'recheduled flights'!!!

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to what my rights are please.
My flight may well be cancelled flying to Turkey on the 6th July as it has low occupancy. I have heard many people are already experiencing flight cancellation with Thomson and Thomas Cook.

I know that I would be able to get a refund or a change of flight, but what if the flight dates are not acceptable.

I booked my holiday in July last year, a whole 12 months prior because it was such a good price. If I get a refund it is unlikely that I will be able to book a holiday at the same price again.

Can I get compensation from the travel agent or the flight company direct and if so how much. I am flying from London to Turkey and return.

Any help would be appreciated as I cant find anything on MSE that covers this, apart from delays which isnt relevant.

If the alternative flight dates are not acceptable then take the refund and book something elsewhere - not sure I understand the question...there is no third option

Compensation is due if a flight is cancelled within 14 days of departure, nothing if cancelled months out

Vaubans Guide covers EU261 for flight cancellations but, as above, compensation not due with this much notice

Booking so far in advance always carries a risk of changes
You could check if your travel insurance covers anything

Don't get me wrong it was quiet efficient. Just a bit of a hole. If you're arriving on an American Eagle operated flight they park on a remote pier (although considered the same terminal) and you get a bus to the main AA terminal. But as I said that ran efficiently.

I'm not 100% certain (& things change) but it looks like we arrive 6 gates up on the same spur of the terminal - so hopefully it'll be walk off one plane, down the corridoor and onto the next.

In all honesty, I don't think the connection will happen and we'll be put onto the next flight, or the first flight the next day. I'm not that fussed, as its a through ticket.

Things have changed and our flights have been altered for the 5th and 6th times this weekend.

Now we get to cool our heels in LAX for a little while
