Barclaycard stopping Mastercard

Comments

  • Yes I've been offered an additional Barclaycard Platinum Visa card but have already got one.

I need a Mastercard as I made a purchase the other day and it would only take Mastercard, Maestro or American Express.

So anyone know who's the best to go to for a new Mastercard without having to open a bank account with them?

I've been with my bank for decades and am quite happy to stay with them.

You could ask Barclaycard to swap your card to their duo American Express/Visa instead.

Otherwise, Tesco Bank or Aqua reward could be good Mastercard options.

How unusual. Dodgy foreign website probably; best avoided.

I've seen quite a flew places in Asia that only accept MC and Amex. (Singapore mainly).

I would like to know why Barclaycard are doing this. It has made a right mess.

I may have missed a letter from Barclaycard as had no idea that the new VISA card was to replace my Mastercard. I cut up my old VISA card because I though it had been replaced. I tried the wrong pin number on my new VISA card, so I have locked that card. And now I find out my Mastercard has been cancelled. So now I have no working cards!
Like Julie, I would like one of each network, just in case one stops working or is not taken by the merchant.
It looks like after 30years I will be parting with Barclaycard.

They have to pay MasterCard to issue them and probably wanted to concentrate on Visa (and Amex)

Why don't you ask them to convert one of your accounts to the duo Visa / Amex as then you get the benefit of two different networks on a single account.

Barclaycard do a cashback account that gives you a Visa and an American Express, it's one account, 1 shared limit, but might give you another option to look at?

I have a Freedom Reward card and went to log in to check rewards offers and it would not accept my card number so went back to statement site and noticed ending number was different, so I rang up and was told about the change to visa and new card was on the way .Would have been nice to have been told prior to the change .I also have an M&S card this is a mastercard that I got a few years ago with a 16month 0% offer which I found on mse and you don't need a bank account with them as a previous poster was asking about .I use both cards just for the reward points and clear them each month and you get money off vouchers for M&S so a win win for me. :j

glad that is working for you but you might find you can do better still..
i tend to favour Cashback over Points, so currently use Amex Cashback backed by Barclaycard Cashback - although sometimes use Asda or Nationwide as the back up instead.
might be worth having a look at your options.
