Holiday Sickness Compensation

Hi, does anybody have any experience with claiming holiday sickness compensation? I was ill last August on holiday in Egypt after catching a stomach bug and my husband thinks I should make a claim, but I don't want to get ripped off. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

What losses do you have as a result? Can you prove it was as a result of something you experienced on holiday?
Your husband sounds like a lot that is wrong with society these days.0 -
Thanks very much for your helpful comment, I'll be sure to inform my husband of his place in society.0

One day I was so ill I couldn't walk and had to receive help from hotel staff in getting back to my room. Once home, three - four weeks of diarrhoea and stomach cramps, three visits to doctor at home including tests. It was a bug picked up at the hotel, as I was in a resort in which I didn't leave the hotel, and there are plenty of reviews on Trip Advisor from other people suffering similar bugs and complaining about the dirty conditions.0

Thats the chance you take when going abroad particularly Egpyt you havent a hope in hell of getting any compensation imagine everytime a holiday maker was ill on holiday travel firms would be out of business One further point even if you were able to complain you have left it far too long0

Doesn't answer either of my questions unfortunately.
As brewthebear states I think you're unlikely to get anything although it does seem the NWNF leeches are now looking at all inc. hols as a source for using the great unwashed to line their coffers.0 -
Sickness and diarrhoea can be caused from any number of things and not always by food.
It could have come from something you ate before you left the UK (although maybe not if it was a few days into your holiday), it could have been from other guests (touching door handles, public spaces that others have touched if they've not washed hands etc), from swimming pool water or simply because you are spending too much time in the sun, maybe drink more or not enough water and eating different, more or richer foods that your body isn't used too.
It isn't always due to food poisoning. As the above poster has said, you've really left it too late now to start making a complaint as you won't be able to gather any evidence that it definitely came from the hotel.Lea

I've heard several ads on the radio recently targeting Illness on holiday! It advises people that if they are ill on holiday with sickness then it's the tour operators responsibility and they can make a claim. Seems there's not much you can't claim for these days!!Lea

You should take medicated hand sanitizer wherever you go, and use it v.regularly.0

It's Egypt. You're likely to get an upset stomach. You could have eaten something at home which caused you to be ill. You could have caught a bug on the flight. You could have caught it on your transfer coach. You could have caught it from someone in the hotel that was ill and wasn't scrupulous about personal hygiene. It could have been down to differently cooked food, too much sun, dehydration, too much alcohol. There's umpteen reasons you could have been ill, and you certainly can't prove it was the fault of the hotel.
I don't think you'd get ripped off. I think it would be you that was trying to do the ripping off!0
