Help!!??

Any tips on how to del with Vodafone? My dad had both his and my mums mobile on one contract. My mum has since passed away but they have said as contract is in his name he can't cancel it without paying £600!!! One is £18.50 (his and willing to keep or pay £64 to cancel - can live with that) and other is iPhone 6 - £48 a month or £600 to cancel. How can they expect a widowed pensioner to pay £65 a month for 2 mobiles? Both my sister and I have called them and tried to reason with them but they aren't budging. The bigger contract has until Aug '17 to run. None of the family are in a position to take the contract on. My dad didn't know what he was getting into when he renewed last year. He's so upset by it.
What can we do?

For general tips see the sticky at the top.

Why exclamation marks? What they say is reasonable and correct.

There are plenty of pensioners around that can easily afford this.
You (your dad) don't have any case really and are in a position only to beg Vodafone for a mercy.
The contracts were on his name and he did manage to pay for both so far. Not to mention that it was not some basic mobile that a pensioner can't live without, but one of the most expensive phones around and on a very expensive contract.

Sell the damn phone to cover at least a part of the debt.

    This sums it all up.

I think in his age he doesn't care much about his credit history anymore. If so, he simply can not to pay and get a default in his credit history. This will help next time when he doesn't know what he is doing.

Cancel the cheaper one and pay £64 and use the other one till Aug 2017
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If the contracts had been in separate names, cancelling one of them would have been little more than a formality on production of the relevant certificates.

    Sorry about your mum.
Try sending a tweet to @VodafoneUKhelp and also posting on their own Vodafone forums.

More likely to be helpful and use their discretion when it is public.

I think you have a good chance.

Just to add there is a thread dedicated to Vodafone complaints here
Follow the instructions in that thread,

Also you can try emailing the CEO of Vodafone, Their high level complaints team will then take over the case. Google "ceo vodafone email"

Try the C.A.B, they might not be able to cancel it for you but maybe they can help to get the costs reduced somehow so it's more affordable.
