  • Good morning everyone, what a cold frosty morning it was today, nowhere near as bad as it was 53 years ago when it was my wedding day. Boy was it bad then , even the registrar had trouble getting in to work. Thick snow everywhere which seemed to last for weeks :).

I wore a very very short dress which barely covered my essentials :) along with a matching coat I don't think I've ever been so cold. Our wedding 'breakfast' as we were so broke cost £9.00 which was steak and chips for us and the two witness's we had pulled in off the street.

My family didn't approve of my choice as they said we hadn't known each other long enough (43 days ) and he was 13 years older than me.but we lasted 40 odd years and were very happy.so we proved them all wrong :):) I still wear the same gold ring he bought me which cost him £4.00 :) Never regretted it at all, I always thought myself very lucky.

The boys have been making a fuss of me this morning and Jack (15) bought me some daffodils bless him and Henry (14) has just made me a nice cuppa, Mikey (11) gave me a big hug and made me a card .They are good lads and very thoughtful. Had a text from Ben (20) in Norwich at Uni,he said its bitter cold up there, luckily his heating is included in part of his rent of his student house.

I will be taking the boys probably to Dobbies this afternoon as I have lots of vouchers to use up so we will have a hot chocolate treat for free :)

Hope everyone is keeping warm and dry

    Cheers everyone

  • Hello all,

Very cold and frosty here first thing, but lovely blue sky and the cat is lying on the kitchen table soaking up the warmth from the sun. If there is sun we have it on the back of the house for a good part of the day.

Jackie, it is oir 49th wedding anniversary in June, so hopefully God willing and a tail wind we might make 50. My mother didn't approve of Himself, he wasn't good enough for me, according to her. I wore a 3 piece pink suit with navy blue accessories and mum said my skirt was too short and we were married at Sittingbourne Register Office. The Superintendent, who was a local Solicitor, mis-pronouced my christian name and Himself was so nervous he followed suit. I have never let him forget that:):):)

A few years into our marriage I think my Mum realised we were meant to be, he is so kind and very shy, and I'm not.

I was only thinking the other day we have been married longer than Mum and Dad. Dad was 66 when he died and they were 3 years short of their golden wedding (they were only 19 when they married).

Dumpling how is the diet going, we are both doing it now? My blood sugar is coming down nicely and we only started on Saturday. I know my faults (bread) but I am learning to do without. My book hasn't arrived yet, supposed to be today, but I have read quite a lot about it on line. Himself is being very supportive and is doing it with me, as long as I don't ask him to eat yoghurt:). He says he doesn't like it, but admits he has never tried it.

    Have a good day all

  • How strange CANDLELIGHT so were we but we've only chalked up 37 years so far, 38 in March. There seems to be a theme about skirt lengths, my dress was a green and white daisy print and deemed MUCH to revealing. He Who Knows parents didn't approve of me and my mother didn't approve of him but we've proved them all wrong and we're glad of the time we've been given together, wouldn't change a single thing!

Back from going to see Mother. She is well and tucked into her fruit. The care home manager spoke to me today about her behaviour when and after my brother visits.... Apparently she is unsettled for hours during and after he goes.

She also asked me if there was anything else i could think of that would help them understand her. Triggers and upsets as well as likes and dislikes.

I was able to fill her in on a lot of stuff. Unresolved family issues, and of course i am sensitive as to what i say to her. I shouldnt think my brothers girlfriend is as careful or as sensitive (bull in a china shop comes to mind). What i didnt tell her was that the girls tell me what goes on when they are around. There is no room for negativity in Mothers room..... and i told her that the doll they gave her, just has to go. She chucked it at me the once and told me she wasnt a baby.... This i was able to now pass on. I didnt think it was my place before. After all they know dementia more than i do. I just know my Mother. She knows all that is being said, she just cant talk back. She needs a hair cut. She showed me a hairstyle in a magazine she liked. As much as i have bought her a lot of things that she has needed. I'm not going to be able to get money out of hubby for a regular haircut. Not when she has money of her own (that my brother is in control of).

Bathed and dried 'Ginges' wound. The wound on her back doesnt look as swollen and angry. The wound on her bum looks a little better too. There appears to be no soreness, no stiffness in her walk. I'm happy with her progress.

Now for a quiet afternoon/evening in the house. Not sure what i'm doing yet but i'm sure i can find something to do.
We love the bungalow life is so much easier all on one floor!!

I'd love to live in a bungalow.:(

    Afternoon everyone.

Visiting family up North for the week, had a good drive up the motorways, think of people oh here when I pass various signs such as Dunstable, Milton Keynes, Midlands, Manchester etc. having lots of cuddles with dgs2 and playtime with dgs1. DD seems quite tired but she is feeding dgs2 herself. Trying to get her to rest.

Ds2 has an interview at the local college near to his dad's and has been offered a place for a full time l2 course. He has an interview on Wednesday with the apprenticeship team at the same college, his back up plan is in place. I used to work at the college so know it is a good college and they get the results. We are going to appeal the decision from the army so have got paperwork from GP and Paedratrician so will send off tomorrow.

Re part time job, the lady wants someone to work full time last 2 weeks in June, however ds2 is taking exams then so will be back & forwards to school so can't do it.

Very little os apart from washing up, cleaning and tidying toys away at my DD.

    Lainey-hope you feel better soon.
Tru - you have done wonders with Scampi.
Dumpling/candlelight- what diet are you following, I know I read it was low carb the other day.

Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care.

Blue sky but very cold. Dishwasher loaded and had cereal and a banana for breakfast. Planning an omelette for lunch and will need to drag in the two wheelie bins that I took out earlier.

Realised I have no home made frozen meals for dds so planning some cottage pie to make later and freeze and maybe also a sliced pork with peppers, mushroom and noodles to portion and freeze. Later this week I am going to use up frozen fish for a fish pie and YS chicken for a chicken and veg mild curry with rice.

I have been waiting in hoping for a phone call or e mail that will tell me when contracts are exchanged and what date I can firm up removal company. So far only two sales / cold calls :(

I think youngest dd might be coming for the weekend so looking forward to that.

    Hugs to all.

  • I got married in a copy of a Laura Ashley dress, I made it myself, it was white cotton printed with flower sprigs.
MIL said I should marry in lavender as that was the colour for spoiled goods!

WHAT an afternoon - it's horrendous outside! Lashing rain and driving wind...think I prefer the bright but freezing days.

And it's been all go here too. I went up to Oban for a couple of things that I can't get here and then the joiner turned up. He hadn't read my email, ah well, it's done now and I've got a lovely bespoke coat rack and wine holder. Just as I sat down the builder's van arrived and now I've got two builders in the small hall doing the grinding down of cement and the fitting of the metal box for the mat. Bedlam!

Sorry to hear about all the woes, it's awful when life conspires to make a day rubbish. All I can offer is sympathy and good vibes for better days.

My appointment is for four o'clock and I really don't feel like going out into the gale but I will.

Hi there, it's not going brilliantly if I am honest. I am struggling to give up bread :o:o. My girls have all opened the fridge door this week with a disgusted look on their faces at all the healthy fruit and veg in there :rotfl::rotfl:. I am just going to ease myself into it gradually this week while the girls are home and give it a good go when they are back at school. I discovered I love natural greek yoghurt though with strawberries and blueberries. I don't really like the muller type of yoghurts and always end up throwing them away so I was dubious but the total yoghurt is lovely.

Talking of wedding outfits, I got married in a black jacket and trouser suit with a bright red cami top underneath. I am soooooo not a dressy person plus I was heavily pregnant with DD15 at the time and definitely dressed for comfort :D. Hubby was just pleased and grateful I wanted to marry him so he didn't care what I wore and nobody else's opinion mattered to me. We have been married for 16 years now and I love him so much and he does me, we saved each other and he means the world to me.

I have some chicken to make something amazing with for tea, where is the roll eyes smiley when you need one :rotfl:. I wanted to make a marinade of garlic and herbs and lemon but time has run away with me again. I might do it tomorrow and just freezer dip today. The girls don't really mind what they have and hubby will just want something cooked. I can chuck in some baked potatoes as a start and decide what to have in a minute.

Hope you all have a great day, what's left of it, take care xx

Afternoon all. We've had another nice but very chilly day. Now it's spoiling itself and clouding over.

It's been a bit of a mad house since lunchtime. DD called with 2 of the DGDs and then DS appeared with Roxy dog. Of course she thought the girls had come to play with her and she was bouncing all over them. DS had called to help Mr TA put brackets on the garage wall for the new ladders we jointly bought last week.

All gone now and peaceful again! I had alovely coffee meet with my friend this morning and we did get one of the comfy sofas which was so comfy we didn't want to leave!

I am spoiling the mini length wedding dress theme I'm afraid! I had a long white dress (off the peg) but I did make both my bridesmaids' dresses. Pale blue with puff sleeves, also long, worn with white big brimmed hats! It was very, very windy and every photo shows them clutching the hats to their heads! 44 years ago come September and it's all as fresh in my mind as yesterday!

Oh well, jobs to do ..... ! Enjoy what's left of the day xx
