O/S Daily Tuesday 16 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he’s on half term hols.
Still dark, the temperature has dropped even lower, looks like it rained during the night but then we had a frost – not nice conditions.
Dinner last night was LO’s – it was a bit of a funny mixture – cold chicken/pork, fried mashed potato, roast potatoes re-heated with a grating of cheese over the top, cauli/broc cheese, Yorkshire puddings, pickled cabbage (DH and DS2) and pasta salads – all eaten and enjoyed by us all. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I’m really pleased nothing got thrown away from Sundays’ meal – but cross with myself that I didn’t sort the chicken carcass and get that in the pot to make some stock.
Work yesterday wasn’t as busy as we thought it would be, but then had several customers all come in at 3pm with complex cases, we finished up staying late and it completely hi-lighted how the management are allowing us to be vunerable – as we couldn’t leave our colleague to deal with situation on her own and we should have been either doing other things or gone home. I’m expecting it to be busier today – as it was so bitterly cold yesterday – we’re thinking people just decided to stay at home rather than come out in the cold and bring the kids out in it too. We’ll see.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone.
Yesterday was so cold so I'm hoping for a slightly warmer day today. It was nice to have a lighter evening, suddenly it was light still at 5.30pm. I love it when spring starts to creep in, even when we're still in February. There are clumps of snowdrops in the hedges and they always cheer me up.
After my day of sorting out technology yesterday I'm going to be more domestic today. I can feel a thorough vacuuming coming up. I've got another laser session later this afternoon. The joiner, who is scheduled to come tomorrow, emailed last night to ask to come today. I hope he got my reply saying 'not really'.
That's all for now, I'm hoping for another snooze!
I hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Good morning, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Cold and dark here but the sky looks clear so even if it is cold later, it may be bright and that is a cheering thought for me. I will be working but paperwork which I will do here at home, avoiding interruptions so quicker.
Washing ready to go on the line, failing that, on the rack indoors but I love the scent of line-dried laundry .
I slept really well, so hoping to find my inner dynamo.
Hope everyone has a good day, and that we all get some sunshine today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
I've been thoroughly enjoying this good weather but I think it's to end today. I went for a walk after work and it was still light at 5.30 which cheers the spirits.
Had a trip out from work yesterday with a couple of children to a local engineering works to meet the First Minister and her deputy, really interesting, she was lovely and took a lot of time to talk to the children, show them how these kind of trips work with tv and radio interviews, etc. Although I am in no way political, it was really good.
Had a good long chat with DS2 over skype to catch up with his news.
The washing was lovely and dry yesterday and smelled so good, none to do today. Will have hm soup for tea and must sew up some bootees I knitted.
Feel better soon Lainey. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Cold here again but hopefully not as cold as yesterday it was really bitter, work was still very busy though and will be the same today.
DD just up and going on her first driving lesson today she is a bit nervous but will be fine once she gets going.
Something with mince for dinner, maybe a spag bol or chilli will see what we fancy later.
Need to do a wash tonight which will have to go mainly in the td as we cant hang washing on the airer anymore.
Right better get on have good days all xx
Lainey hope you feel better today x0 -
Morning all. Another cold start and yesterday's snow is still there where the sun didn't get to it. We have the most beautiful sunrise and another good, but cold, day is promised.
We had a glorious day yesterday, blue sky and sunshine all day. Of course it was a bit parky out of the sun! We had a lovely day out and I came home with quite an assortment of bits and pieces gleaned from charity shops and bargain stores. Rounded off by a nice lunch.
This morning I am meeting my oldest friend (we met 63 years ago on our first day at junior school!) for coffee and a cake. It's my horrendously big birthday next month but she will be away so it's a very early meet up so she can give me my pressie. As usual we'll have a good old gossip and just hope we can get one of the comfy sofas!
Eldest DGD is coming this afternoon as her most favourite black jeans (which she almost lives in!) have split and she's hoping grandma can work a miracle on them!
I am shortly going to make a corned beef stew, using the stock from Sunday's gammon. This will feed Mr TA for two or three lunches. Dinner tonight will be the remains of the said gammon with an egg, mushrooms and fried up potatoes. There's also some mincemeat tart left in the fridge so that's afters spoken for!
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care and wrap up warm! xx ps hope you are feeling a bit better today Lainey."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Hubby has been dropped at work, I've come home and had breakfast, it's -3 here so I'm sat under a blanket waiting for the heating to come on so I can have a shower.
Nmlc, being cynical it sounds to me like the management have found a cheap way of making everyone work more hours for less money.
I have some items to give away on FB, they are being collected today, hopefully, if I get messed about they will go to the CS.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

Hope you're feeling OK today Lainey x
Yesterday's walk was very short. Scampi spotted an electric wheelchair and kicked off, I managed to calm him down then he went nuts at a car and wouldn't listen to a word I said. I turned him around (with difficulty!) and marched him back home. We were out for a grand total of six minutes! I ignored him, he sulked for a while then behaved for the rest of the day. He was completely different on his walk last night, he met a new friend – a 1yo light brown border collie named Shep. We've known the owner for years so they came back here for a while, Shep and Scampi wrestled and shared food for about 30 minutes. I was thrilled with the good doggy manners from my stressy little menace
Crochet has come to a standstill, I've run out of one of the colours. I have a big order coming, I had an email yesterday to say it's been dispatched so it should be here in a couple of days. I could start something else in the meantime but I already have three things on the go, not sure if I should start another
Very frosty here this morning, the muscles around my hip tense up the second I step out into the cold so I'll be wearing leggings under my jeans in an effort to keep warm. Miss tru doesn't start work til 12pm on tuesdays so she's enjoying a lie-in. The man-trus are getting ready for work at the moment so I'll swish the kitchen while I'm waiting for my turn in the shower. Not sure how much I'll do today, it depends on how long -or short – our walk is and how stressed I am when we get back, lol.

Morning all,
Had a rotten night, my rib-cage hurts so much from coughing that kept waking me up and just ache all over. Have had to phone in sick, the office manager was really nice about it but hardly how I wanted start to my new job to be
My DOH is making me honey, lemon and ginger hot drinks and also went out to get some Buttercup Syrup so am being well looked after, no appetite at all though. God I sound like a whinger.
It's a bright, sunny day here but cold, for once am going to make sure heating stays on.
Hope everyone has a good day and thanks for the well wishes xx0 -
Moving forward.... what normally takes me a few hours in the house yesterday took all day. I went to bed shattered.
Ginge is fine. Bum still looks a bit ropey. She doesnt seem to be in pain. She has a wound check on Saturday but i'll call the vet in if i am concerned.
Off down to see Mom this morning. I'm taking two satsumas and a pear today as well as other supplies.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Yesterday was horrendous. We both had appointments at our local hospital, mine was an hour and a half late, drops in my eyes,20 minutes wait and then told, no idea why my optician had sent me nothing new, and my cataract is no where near ready to be done. Well I knew that. I was very cross it was a waste of time and money. We went to DD2's for lunch and then back for OH to get his hearing aids, another hour whilst he was tested and fitted. By the time we got home we had been out for six and three quarter hours, I was shattered, good job it was salad and jacket spuds for supper.
We woke to snow yesterday, I did get a line of laundry dry, very cold, we both went out in our ski jackets, at least we were warm. It's a bright but cold morning, I have a date with the iron at some point today. I did manage a quick flit round the Monday clean before we went out, so a quiet day today, I hope.
Time to get up and start the day, I was so tired I zonked out when we came to bed, did not wake when OH got up so breakfast in bed.
We love the bungalow life is so much easier all on one floor!!0
