new passport for my son, details enetered incorrectly and no refund!???

Hi

I am seriously concerned about what sort of scam the government are trying to pull.

my newborn son was born and lives in japan atm and i live in England. him and mother in japan. i want to get him an english passport.

i call the passport helpline and told i need to fill out the application form from uk as a apply for passport for newborn child and put my details in the new passport section. i did. i paid. i recalled and was told no i need to put my sons details in, i asked for a refund and was gauranteed it by 'jessica' i just had to send an email to feedback@hmpo.gov.uk. i emailed within 30 minutes of applying. no reply today so i call again 03002220000, i am told you have to send a letter to belfast to cancel the payment and it never gets refunded.

has anyone come across this where they have made a mistake in applying due to the fault of hmpo and refused a refund? it seems diabolical that you can't make a mistake.

please help i just want my money back a telephone number of someone more helpful than the advice line

    You don't make a lot of sense in your post, but if you made a mistake in your application it seems only right that it's your problem.

    What was the actual mistake you made on the application, did you apply as if it was a new passport for you, rather than your son?

  • filled in the son part with my details, they went through it with me on the phone. i found this though and looks like i may get a refund if i keep on at them https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/118599/application-fees-refunds.pdf

    it's very difficult to monitor someone else's work via the phone. Why did you not simply get the blank form and fill it in following the instructions and guidance notes?

    A couple of things..
    There is no such thing as an English passport (you probably wanted a British one);
    Since he was born in Japan and lives there, you should have applied at the British embassy there.

    Surely the application has to made to the British Embassy in Japan if your child is resident there ?

    Have you read the guidance notes that came with the form ?

    I serioulsy doubt the government are trying to pull any scam (at least concerning the issue of a child's passport).

    Who told you 'it never gets refunded'?

    British embassies no longer issue passports or handle passport applications. It's all done through the UK passport office now.
