I have wine racks cut to fit under my stairs. Not enough wine to fill them though ... The staircase is due to be replaced and will take up a lot less space, at which point I also hope to have room to put a desk next to the wine racks.

(some how, putting that down in writing, it doesn't seem quite such a sensible idea!)

True. Hadn't thought of the dog bed aspect, haha!

Maybe a desk under the stairs would be more practical. No building required, just shove a desk under?

Just don't want it to be my cr*p accumulator area.

Go on pinterest and search on 'under stairs'. I bet you find the exact thing you're looking for.

There are desks, reading nooks, Ikea hacks, clever drawers, bookshelves, dog beds...

What about this, it would look good if you painted it white/cream to match your decor. Get some foam for the top and cover it with some nice fabric and there you go, bob's your uncle, fanny's your aunt.

I was thinking of putting a sofa and wall mounted shelves under my stairs - now you have given me ideas.

Or download the "Houzz" app and search there. I can spend hours drooling over home decor I never even knew I liked before"

Have to agree, I could never see myself sitting on some of those alleged sofas, but then I'm an old git who needs something more structured to be comfortable.

I've seen space under the stairs used for hiding computer /office gear, although with wi-fi and tablets much of that is now mobile and can be spread around more.
