New boiler installed - shower now doesn't work

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can give any advise on an issue i'm having with my shower since i had a new boiler installed.

I'm a first time homeowner, bought the place late last year. I asked British Gas to give the boiler a check with a view of taking out a Service agreement with them but it failed due to multiple errors.

This was fair enough - we knew it was really old and it had been intermittently giving us errors (about 2-3 in the past 6 months).
We therefore agreed to a new boiler with BG which was installed last monday (worster Bosch greenstar 28i).

Up until then, other than the occasions when the boiler had an error mentioned above we hadn't really had any problems. Now our shower doesn't work. The taps all work but when we turn the shower on the new boiler doesn't fire up.

I've complained to BG and one of their engineers has been out and said there is nothing they can do as the boiler is working fine and any faults with the shower aren't they're fault.

So i dont really know where to go from here, the shower was installed just before we bought the house but i dont have any paperwork for it. I've just spent a load of money on the boiler so dont want to pay out for a plumber as well. I'm thinking of complaining to BG but not sure if i'm barking up the wrong tree - any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
I am an employee of British Gas but all views i write are personal and not a reflection of my employer.

What type of shower is it?
And did it ever work with the new boiler?

I would say it is their problem, they should have checked that the boiler they installed was suitable for the current installation and if that wasn't possible they should have advised you so.
BG really are a crock of 5h1te when it comes to boilers.

Who's to say it isn't suitable? I'm sure it runs the central heating just fine, and if there's a broken electric shower then how is that BG 's fault?

It may be that the flow rate through the shower is too low to trigger the boiler to fire up. Combi boilers will not operate at very low flow rates, to avoid overheating. One way you could test that would be to turn a hot tap on low, then try using the shower.

Not sure what you could do about that, though, without calling a plumber.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • The type of shower would help to answer your question
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Tell British Gash that part of the commissioning process is to "check hot water at all outlets". They obviously didn't do this and therefore didn't commission your boiler correctly. That should get them moving.

If the shower is a standard electric one then it isn't connected to the boiler so presumably it wouldn't be counted as an outlet. As people have said though, without the OP saying what kind of shower it is everything is a guess.

    Lungboy: the OP's
when we turn the shower on the new boiler doesn't fire up
    strongly suggests it isn't electric.

If you take the shower head off, and allow the hose to lie in the tray, and then turn the shower on full, does the boiler then fire?

If it doesn't, place a bucket in there; hot tap on full/set to hottest on control, how long does it take to fill the bucket, and how large is the bucket by volume?
