When I (eventually) get my lovely new kitchen, I would like a stainless steel range oven (can't be more than 900mm wide). I don't know much about ranges...in fact I know absolutely nothing! Can anyone recommend a good make..are they all gas powerered? I presume you would buy the extractor hood with the oven itself. £1k is pushing my budget to the limit, to anything less than that would be cool. I'd be grateful for any assistance. Thanks. x (was gonna post similar about American Frigde Freezer, but someone's done that recently so will investigate further now......)

I have a french made range, which has two ovens both electric. The hobs are gas. (Horribly expensive when we bought it about 10 years ago, well outside your budget and size I fear) We didn't buy an extractor hood for years after. You can chose what you like for that as it has nothing to do with the range. We all evolve - get on with it0

I'd choose one with an electric, fan assisted oven and a gas hob. Best of both worlds.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

i have a caple range cooker 900 wide one huge fan assisted electric oven (great for xmas)and 6 gas rings.
my sister has a stoves range which is 1000 wide has 1 electric fan !!! oven 1 gas oven 1 grill and tray compartment 4 gas rings 1 griddle and warming plate.
i prefer to cook on gas although now i know how my oven works which you will after a while it's not so bad but i do wish i'd got the one like my sister0 -
Is Belling a good make for a range oven? I will def go for gas hob and electric oven. I am so confused. I can't spend more than £1k, and my current built in oven is electric oven, gas hob, which works really well for me. I am not a massive cook (but we are a family of 5, so extra space great), but am not bothered with the 3 ovens. The double one sounds nice (presumably you can have 2 ovens going with different temperatures?! sorry to be so dim, but I haven't a clue!).

Edit - just had a horrible thought...out of that £1k needs to come the s/steel hood as well!0 -
I did a quick search - good old Google - and found this site. A few well within your budget. are you going to have to have the hood vented to the outside world as well? More money!
http://www.rangecookers.co.uk/Default.aspx No idea what they are like but you can search by size.
With two ovens you can be cooking something at a low heat in one oven and a high heat in another.
The one I have which is made by Rosieres and part of their Paul Bocuse range (no pun intended) has four gas rings, one of which is tiny and is great for simmering, and a great big 4.7kw hot plate. And two ovens. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
I had a rangemaster 900 with 2 fan assisted electric ovens 4 rings and a wok burner think list price was just over £1000 at Magnet.(hubby is a builder and gets a good discount) Had it just over a year and must say am very pleased with it.0

Take some time to look round the smaller gas showrooms, when we bought ours they had a deal on that wasn't at any of the larger stores so we got the extractor hood free, also a lot of the local places have delivery and installation included in the price:T
Where are you in the country?0 -
Why do you want a range? As you say, you know nothing about them, so what is the appeal?
I looked at them 4 years ago for my new kitchen, but decent ones were horribly expensive (Mercury and Britannia are a couple of brands that spring to mind)
I went for a fan double oven by AEG and an 4 ring induction hob (uses electric but has the response and speed of gas) which is absolutely fantastic. Really glad I didn't get a range now. You can get induction hobs in 6 ring versions too if you need the extra space.0
