Going to Ibiza (see thread in Travel Forum for more detailsi f you are really interested) Will be going on my own (but will see other I know out there even if not for the whole holiday)

Anyway I begrudge paying money to recieve calls so I will be getting a Sim Card like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6395042750

Is this the best deal or can anyone better it.

Also I will be looking to access the internet via my hotel room using a dial up provider - anyone know of one for spain that offers it on the equiviant of a local rate. I'd consider GPRS access if I could work out how to access the net with it, surely better than a piffling 9K connection.

Also has anyone had any experieces of Dual Sims and their prices (they seem to go for about £6 on eBay - any pitfalls or recccomendations to look out for??

Thanks in adavance

    "Receive FREE incoming calls worldwide"

Is this really true or is the Ebayer just pulling a fast one? I tried visiting the spanish mobile web site https://www.amena.com , under roaming - but could not understand it. Can someone who can speak Spanish confirm that while roaming with this sim, incoming calls are free?

    Thanks.

If you click english in the top right corner of the amean site it translates some for you.

What they mean is while you are in Spain (or Canaries etc) you wont pay for incoming calls no matter from where they are from. This is standard practice IE if you went and bought say a Virgin Pre Pay Sim you wouldnt get charged for incoming calls from wherever as long as you were in the UK

Otherwise you get charged horrendous rates - the reason being that the caller can not be expected to "know" you are away and pay the increased cost

I know what you are saying RussWWFC. But read that statement again:

    "Receive FREE incoming calls worldwide"

To me, this means you can travel almost anywhere in the world and not get charged for incoming calls. I know the standard drill for most service providers that they charge for incoming calls...but there are some that will let you roam most of Europe and there is no incoming charge.

Unfortunately the roaming rates on amena website cannot be translated as it is a pdf file.

Russ that eBay link doesn't work for me at the moment. Can you describe the product? Is it a site with several different country SIMs available or for one SIM for free incoming roaming and cheap outgoing calls in many countries?

I think in the case of Spain, one of the local SIMs. I think 2 of the networks may have free 900 (eq o800) calls, or just a connect fee. Amena has a calling card that I can't remember enough about. There are a couple of other threads for Spain you could find with a search.

Oh thanks! It looks ok. My info was the card was €30 with €20 credit so is probably a bit old, or that is a special offer. All the Spanish networks seem to have about 4 tariff options, with peak/off-peak, same/cross net variations, but they all have that flat rate tariff of 30c (Voda 28c).

I'd search the other threads to check the Amena calling card. And to find out whether the 900 etc calls are free on payg or only contract.
  • Hi Russ

BexTech for just Spain, it's probably cheaper to use a Spanish SIM with either a calling card or similar. It will depend a bit whether Russ will be called by Spanish phones or UK ones.

Riiing is more expensive when used on its own (33p per minute if bought from Oneroam), and is more complicated to use with a callback service. However, it is available elsewhere rather cheaper.
