Is it possible to sell my garage?

I have a garage that I own on a block which is in the deeds to my house - is it possible to sell this garage and will there be alot of legal / paperwork hassle? would it end up being worth it after all the fee's? How much do garages normally go for. It is in residential road in Stevenage.
Would I be better just renting it out?

You could sell the garage by which you would need to have legal work carried out to change the title deeds. If you have a mortgage you have to ask the company you are with if you can do this.
I would not sell a garage which forms part of a house for various reasons but it is your choice and can be done. If it is worth it in the end is something I cannot comment about as I do not know the value of garages in your region.0 -
In my area a lot of garages are falling into disrepair as cars don't rust so much now, and anti-theft measures have improved. Is there really such a demand in Stevenage? Maybe in Chelsea.Been away for a while.0

In your shoes, I wouldn't sell it. It could very well make your house less desirable when you come to sell it. If you don't use the garage, renting may be the better option. Some income, no legal fees to be paid, and an asset remaining with the house.
Just make sure whoever rents it doesn't grow cannabis or illegal workers in there!0 -
I wouldn't sell it either. If you don't use it, rent it out, but with car ownership increasing and parking in some residential areas becoming a first come first served fight, then it might come in useful in the future! When we bought our flat, we didn't even bother looking at anything that didn't have at least a parking space with it!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'd rent it out. Having a garage adds value to any home when it is for sale.
But more importantly not having parking/garage can stop many people looking for a house from even looking at yours just because it doesn't have it.
People might buy your house in the future because "Well, it's not perfect, but it's got a garage so we'll go for it" as opposed to "Won't look. Not got a garage"0 -
By coincidence, I saw the following article in the Times today:

More drives than garages though.Been away for a while.0 -

I don't know about Hertfordshire, but here in S.Essex there are regular auction sales of garages, in with houses that need gutting, properties with protected tenants and ground rents (the freehold bit of 2 or more flats).
You should have a similar bargain basement auction service in you area ?
First step is is to check with your lender and get hold of a copy of you deeds. There may be some restrictive covenant over the use of you property's garage. (If you had the garage next door or the garden sloping down to the block of garages, would you want a night worker (say) using the garage for storage for his business?).
That said, it is your freehold land (?), so you should be able to sell it. You might be able to sell it to the neighbour whose fleet of cars are driving the rest of you mad.

FYI a single garage in North Devon (so not similar area, but might give you a clue) is for sale at £10,500. Detached block-built single garage, flat roof.
Personally I wouldn't sell unless as it will reduce the number of people who would look at your house. Anyone with an soft-top car, motorbike, trailer, canoes, etc wil want a garage and probably wouldn't look at a house without.0 -
We have never had a garage and when we lived in the UK were delighted to rent the neighbours' garage.
I'd rent it out if I were you.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

A garage, across the park from us, has just sold for £100,000.... The new owners have pulled it down and are building a two story house in the space!0
