  • Finally sold some stuff on ebay. A double bed, chest of draws, and a book case. I only got £30 for the lot, but at least I haven't had to pay for someone to take them away I guess. That £30 can go towards the tip run for the old mattress and couch etc so it all helps.

  • Finally getting rid of some stuff yesterday has helped my motivation to get the rest done. After reading a different diary last night, sorry I've forgotten whose it was, they mentioned getting a chair from dfs. I didn't realise dfs did 0% deals, so spent the night window shopping for couches again, not just on dfs just in general.

Anyway here are some plans for today, I'm hoping by writing it down it will help get some of it done.

    1. go through rest of books, including IT books and ziffit those. I had been hanging on to lots of old IT books but really I don't think I need them as I don't refer to them so might as well sell them if I can and save moving another bookcase.

    2. sort through clothes, bedding to get it down to 1 wardrobe and 1 dresser of stuff that actually fits me. Rather than having loads of "spare" clothes in wrong sizes just in case I can fit in them sometime soon. I can always buy new stuff if I do lose the weight.

    3. put couch on freecycle and matching chair / stool on facebook / ebay.

    4. decide which book cases I'm keeping and facebook / ebay the rest.

5 go through the kitchen cupboards and get rid of all the miss matching plastic boxes with no lids, sort out which appliances etc I'm taking and get rid of the rest.

    6. shred / sort 4 more boxes of old paperwork.

It is a lot to do, and even if I don't get it all done this week, it is something to aim for and be able to cross off the list later.

Have you checked with your council whether they collect so many large items free of charge?

The council charge £11 an item, and you have to get it outside yourself. I've booked to get an old matress taken away. I can't get a couch and chair outside myself though. I did mail them and ask if they would take pity on me but they won't. So just have to hope someone in freecycle wants it, else I'll have to risk a man with a van and hope they don't fly tip it.

haven't started this yet so job for tomorrow
    3. put couch on freecycle and matching chair / stool on facebook / ebay. listed a few things on freecycle, no takers for the couch yet but getting rid of some other bits so that helps

    4. decide which book cases I'm keeping and facebook / ebay the rest.

    6. shred / sort 4 more boxes of old paperwork. have managed to fill my recycling wheely bin. Will try and do some more and bag it up so it is ready for when they next come to empty it

So haven't finished yet but got a lot done today so feeling quite pleased. British gas coming tomorrow to look at the boiler. Hopefully they will have the parts to fix it first time.

Then it is just trying to see if the solicitor is back at work, or if someone else can take the case over.

  • Another good day today. 3 things picked up from the freecycle ads yesterday. Have someone coming tomorrow to pick up some more bits, and have someone else deciding over the couch which would be brilliant to get rid of that without having to pay someone.

My solicitor will hopefully be back in work this week too, so hopefully she is doing better and this won't delay the move.

Still not 100% sure if I still have the mortgage offer, they sent me an email saying they had talked to the valuer and they hadn't realised it wasn't on mains drainage and just assumed as it isn't that on a building it would be fine. I've replied to the underwriters email just to check if that means it is still all ok.

Boiler was fixed today as well, I was right and it wasn't something I could have sorted myself so that made it worth while. Lets hope the fix works like he said it would anyway then I can have a clean conscious I did the right thing for the people buying it to get it sorted out.

Hopefully in under 6 weeks I'll be in my new place.

  • Sounds like things are moving forward. You appear to have a sensible plan - so many assume they will always be able to work as long as they want or a magic £100k will appear before they retire to sort their mortgage out. Hope the bank don't penalise you (we were off mains for agrs growing up, would you be able to conne t if needed, our issue in one house was the water came from fell drainage so very limited in summer, whilst the other wasfrom a well with no regulation on drainage from neighbouring vields)

  • One winter we had to go create a chain gang the end of the garden, climb over an 8ft wall and cross a field to get water from the river as all the pipes had frozen. We had an american friend staying with us at the time - it was definately a different type of experience!

  • It has mains water luckily, just has something called a biotank which is like a septic tank which is shared with next door. I thought it was better to tell the mortgage people the valuation was wrong as it was saying it was on mains drainage, rather than them saying at the last minute I hadn't told them. When I did tell them when I did the application and they checked and said it would be fine.

Just had another email about the couch and they want to text me tomorrow to arrange collection so fingers crossed that comes through ok.
