I wouldn't assume to know where you live and why that makes the word completely inoffensive. A quick google brings up arguments in the Daily (F)ail about whether it's a racist term, but a UKIP candidate was sacked for using it, and the cambridge dictionary says it's offensive, so I guess the majority of people where you don't live disagree with the people where you live
