There are several Youth Hostels in London, always good value.

I like easyhotel when I'm in london, get a room with a window though if you're scared of the dark, or you can just leave the bathroom light on with the door ajar all night.
You don't get a tv in your room but everything else is fine, and if you're in london why do you need a tv. I don't need someone to change the sheets every day, but if you like that then you can just pay extra for it.MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000

Early July you might get university accommodation which tends to be quite swish now - certainly you'll get your own bathroom. LSE has some next to the Globe theatre which is fairly cheap (£50 a night sort of thing)0

Universityrooms.com has some really good bargains for early July.
Several different locations including Victoria and Bloomsbury. Not used them in London, tho have in other cities.
I have enjoyed staying at the Penn Club, a B&B with a Quaker background.
Near British Museum. Russell Square tube.
Basic rooms with shared bathroom about £70/night. Ensuite with garden view (VERY quiet, tho the others aren't very noisy) about £105. No frills. No lift. Great breakfast. For other meals, can take own food in to eat in dining room. Always meet interesting people. Good reviews on Tripadvisor.

P.S. Should perhaps have made clear: I'm a single female tenor! (More women tenors in our choir than men!)0 -

A four star in a decent and central area is very doable in your budget.
There are websites like better bidding that will help you identify which hotel it is before booking.
Otherwise for your dates a central hotel (named) is going to be a three star.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I've stayed in Club Quarters, it was perfectly nice for the price.
However if you want to stay near the theatres etc, have a look at the Z Hotel Soho - rooms are *cough* compact *cough* but very clean and comfortable, and you get free cheese before the shows go in (nice cheeses too). It's right by the Cambridge, and is keenly priced. It means not walking from Victoria at night.
Alternatively, if you go further out, there re some great deals to be had at places like the Dorsett in Shepherds Bush, but you will spend time and money getting to the shows, so it rather depends on you preferences. When I have meetings in Soho, the Z is perfectly fine.0
