From my understanding its now the only bank still to adopt a glass cover counter feature.. Natwest recently changed this within their recenr modernastion of the branches. Santander and barclays includes.. Its the 21sr century and I dont want branch visit feel like im visiting a prison imo.

    Agreed.

Remember though, in 21st century Britain you can't be too secure. For example, try Costa in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. At least 10 "in your face" spy cameras watching the punters. And that's only a coffee shop!

I would hope more thought goes into it than to have this as the only criteria on which to choose a bank.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

My local TSB, Nationwide, Yorkshire Building Society, and Coventry BS all have glass screens.

I know that both TSB and Nationwide are rolling out branch modernisation programmes, so their glass screens will be going eventually.
  • Some love it, some hate it. I know some prefer the traditional feel of a bank while others like the openness getting rid of the glass brings.

You are a happy person if this is the biggest problem in your life.
And what are you doing in branches in the 21 century anyway, especially over a counter?

Although I was in a HSBC branch on Friday (Petersfield) that didn't have any glass screens! Nice open counters, presumably with a rising security screen if necessary (like in Santander).

Perhaps branches that undergo modernisation will remain open in the longer term. Over a 300 HSBC branches were earmarked for closure last year alone.

I would prefer that no money is spent by the banks on remodeling the branches and that the money is invested in to make branch visits unnecessary. They really need to perfect cash machines that allow you to pay in cheques and cash (including coins) and roll these out so there is atleast one in every town/city.

1,000 branches? That would be nearly all of them. According to this report they only had 1,187 branches in 2013.
