Virgin Broadband Cancellation

So 10 months ago I entered into a contract for 18 months with Virgin Broadband. Now, due to a change in circumstances I will shortly be moving abroad. I have called them to advise this and they have notified me that I will need to pay a £240 cancellation charge for leaving the contract. Now I understand how a contract works but I know many contracts in other industries have a change of circumstance clause allowing you to leave without penalty. Is anyone aware of anything I can do to avoid this excessive fee?

Thanks

    No

    And its no excessive.

Its what you signed up to - the £240 is capped as the maximum charge.

Virgin, along with all other providers, do not have contracts with such escape clauses I'm afraid. If you leave early (for whatever reason other than being dead) there is an Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fee to pay.

If they are charging you £240, I don't know why you describe it as "excessive". The eight months of subscription left (which they could have charged) is bound to have cost you far more than that.

The only time that you DON'T pay an Early Termination Fee is when there has been an Early Termination :)
