Duff fuel?

I've had multifuel stoves for the past 30 years. Just had a Little Wenlock fitted in the new property.
It's fine - except for an issue with a delivery of Homefire Ovals. Lovely glow but I can't keep the fire in overnight with it and I get lots of clinker whether on a hot burn or a slow burn and on whatever settings (believe me I've tried everything).
Gone back to the cheaper Multiheat and it's fine. Just wondering whether it's a stove/chimney issue or whether batches of fuel can vary and I had a duff lot - as Homefire Ovals seem to get good reviews.

It isn't impossible to get a bad batch or, which seems a bit more likely from what you've said, something else that only looked like Homefire. This could have happened accidentally when it was bagged up or even deliberately, if a cheaper fuel was supplied instead.
What strikes me as odd is the mention of 'clinker'. It's a long while since I've burned Homefire, but I seem to remember that it burned, as most manufactured fuels do, to dust and didn't leave much, if any, clinker behind.
You could try taking it up with your coal merchant but presumably you've used it all up by now?0 -
Thanks. I did raise it with the coal merchant and they seemed genuinely puzzled. They are a reputable local, rural family firm so if it is a 'lookalike', I doubt they would do it on purpose. That said I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one complaining if the fuel is wrong.
Yes the clinker (and more ash than expected) is puzzling. I might try to get a little from somewhere else to compare.
I have a bit left so just mixing a small amount with the other till it is used up (apart from keeping some back as 'evidence')

That's very strange. Did the supplier offer to take a look at it?
I seem to recall that Homefire is widely available from hardware and some DIY stores, so it might be possible to buy a bag and make a comparison.0 -
To back up badger.
I use homefire, along with a couple of other "cpl" smokeless fuels on and off, and it doesn't leave "clinker".
Only fuel i've seen that sometimes has issue like that is phurnacite.0 -
