cannot delete emails or access calendar in Microsoft Outlook

Options
Hi

can anyone help me?

I seem unable to delete emails, or delete reminders it say cannot turn off the reminder. ........errors have been detected use Scanpst.exe to diagnose and repair errors in the file.

:o I have no clue what this means, I have found scanpst.exe ( but have lost it again) but don't know what to do with it?

The file C:\Documents and Settings\WinXP\Local Setting\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst is in use and cannot be accessed. Close any application that is using this file, and then try again. You might need to restart your computer.

    and then

    Cannot load free/busy data

If all else fails, go to Control panel -> Programs & Features. Right-click MS Outlook in the programs list and select the Repair option.

    Which version of Outlook?

Outlook 2003 and earlier have a maximum size on the PST file (2GB from memory), and it gets very unhappy if you hit that limit.

I had a look and its not helping - I don't know what I am doing!
  • If it is win 7 then in the start menu all programs there will be an item for MSoffice and if you open that all the individual programs are listed as for example "Microsoft office outlook 2003"

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office folder then in the search bar at the top, enter scanpst.exe and let Windows find it for you. When you find it, just double-click on it and it will then do its own thing to, hopefully, fix the problem.

    Edit
You can find out how to use it <here>.

You need to locate the Outlook PST file. See the link posted earlier. There is another link there, to an <article about where the default location of the file is> depending on your Windows version and Outlook version.
