Fastest way to get a bill as proof of address?

Why do you say that? I'm renting and my council tax bill is in my name. I've rented quite a number of different properties and have always registered for council tax in my name (or registered not to pay it as a student). If the OP is expecting the utility bills to be in his name, then why would council tax be any different?Flobberchops wrote: »Unfortunately for the OP the council tax bill would surely be in the landlord's name?0 -
You are saying this like there is some logic/intuition behind this. Generally, this can be both ways as in UK council tax is some equivalent of property tax in other countries. For people who never rented or let property this isn't obvious.... If the OP is expecting the utility bills to be in his name, then why would council tax be any different?0 -
It wasn't the OP that was in doubt about this, it was Flubberchops. I did, perhaps mistakenly, assume Flubberchops is from the UK and most people in the UK have rented at some point in their lives, so it seemed a fair assumption. You are saying this like there is some logic/intuition behind this. Hmm... come to think of it, you're right.
[edit] I work in London and I get a lot of customers telling me they have no council tax bill of their own. Possibly that's indicative of the kind of short-term multiple occupancy properties they tend to live at, where I guess the landlord would pass on the costs of utilities and tax through the rent. Thinking back to when I rented an apartment, I did pay council tax.: )0 -

Some of it won't apply to you but if you read the whole article, hopefully it will give you some useful pointers as to how best to proceed.0
