BT Mobile
Hi,
Just wondering what everyone thinks of BT Mobile before I sign up?
I am looking at the £25p/m sim only deal (£21 if I sign up before the 15th). I currently pay £40p/m for unlimited calls, texts and data with 3 though that was a 2 year contract with phone.
I use a lot of data as I do not have wifi at home and travel around a lot staying in hotels etc. I stream a lot of youtube, now tv etc.
Looking at my phone usage over the last 4 years (been with my current provider for 4 years) I average 800mins of calls, around 600 texts and 11GB of data per month. Lowest data usage has been 6GB and the highest has been 15GB with most months being around 9-11GB.
I like the look of BT mobile as the £25 gives me unlimited calls and texts and 20GB of data plus BT sport. At present I buy Sky sports day passes or week passes for when my team is being shown as I do not want to pay £30 per month to have a channel I only watch every so often. As my team appears on BT Sport also it would be useful to have and is one of the attractions to the BT contract.
So has anyone got any comments on BT Mobile? Locally they have a strong 4G signal just trying to gauge the national opinion. Three is very strong locally but a bit hit and mix nationally and in some areas I get no three data signal at all.

BT is an EE MVNO and will offer similar coverge but the data performance is more limited than EE direct. I use Three and EE who both provide their respective mobile service via a company they jointly own called MBNL. I undertand "officially" BT doesn't allow tethering although but some customer claim to still do it. I guess BT may take a harder line in future and stop this as it is in breach of its T&C's if that makes any difference.
Both gererally offer good coverage especially for 3G but I'd give Three the edge for 3G because whilst I can carry on streaming on Three my EE sim drops to 2G in the same place. EE 4G offers better coverage though at the momment. Three maybe quicker than BT i.e. locally it can be over 70Mbps on Three 4G but I think BT is restricted to 30Mbps but heck that's still a lot providing its MVNO bandwidth is stretched with data hungry people joining for the new deals.0 -
I switched to bt from Vodafone and couldn't be happierIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Yeah, it is my understanding that they do not allow tethering either but that isn't a deal breaker for me. Three only allow 2GB and to be honest I have never used it.
The BT Wi-Fi hotspots look appealing also as it seems that in most areas I will be in I will have the choice of 3G/4G data services and or wifi hotspots (looking at the map they provide)
The one thing I get frustrated about with Three is how their signal can go from full strength 4G to absolutely nothing other than emergency calls only, just a street or two over even in densely populated areas. This happens where I live (in a city) my house is full 4G go just down the road and there is absolutely no Three signal what so ever. I hope BT will be a better in this regard as I have had it happen in other towns also.
From the reading I am doing it seems like I have nothing to lose with a 12 month BT sim only contract £21 per month if taken out before the 15th. 20GB Data, BT sport (Though its a shame the mobile app doesn't work with chromecast like the Now TV app) and an extensive wifi hotspot network.0 -
I moved from Tesco mobile to BT mobile in June last year and I have found the coverage excellent.0

Just for ref on current Three sim only plans you can you all the data allowance for tethering expect on the all you can eat plans which have a 12GB tethering allowance and 1000GB phone UK data FUP.
EE signal can do the same so I wouldn't expect tcoverage everywhere even to make calls on EE 2G which I can't use in some not so out of the way places. So I guess it depends where you plan to use it. Maybe try an EE PAYG sim first to get a better idea.
It is a good deal providing BT keep up with MVNO bandwidth demand if a lot of new customers join with the intent of using lots of data. Enjoy !0 -
