I like the Kelmscroft white as well - just worried about MFI quality? Have you had a quote yet? Very similar to one at Howden's- but again quality?

Have a look at PWS website - sell doors to trade but if you see one you like search that name and you will find someone near you who does it. Have a nice framed one called Milton.

The framed ones do look alot more expensive when fitted.

Let me know what you think of the ones on PWS there are about 60 + kitchens on there.

Not sure of prices yet waiting for a quote from someone who does the milton.

Although I have put on a picture of the MFI kitchen, we have had a quote from Howdens which is £2,500 cheaper. We took a door from Howdens into MFI and it is really very similar. The only thing Howdens don't do is the tall 900 units (when I measured up to 900 in my kitchen, the plinth would nearly touch the coving...very deceiving in a showroom where the ceilings are really tall). And I wouldn't get the wide 900 drawers with Howdens. But for £2.5k, I am not too bothered about that!! The other thing is my old kitchen is now on the bonfire, my wall in being knocked down tomorrow. I can get Howdens to deliver a kitchen by Wednesday if I wanted. MFI would take weeks..... Then I need to get someone to measure up for granite, which could be another 3-4 weeks on top of that! Am going to look at PWS website now...thanks for that. x

Yes - Milton Oak looks lovely. It looks a lot more expensive than unframed kitchens, and really really sets it off with that huge granite worktop. Let me know what price you get! x

It's funny coz I actually thought the wood was more popular, but when I have been nosing on Rightmove at other kitchens, there are loads of white ones! I think oak will win. The fading is the thing I am bothered about the most. I went into a different MFI and although the lighting was not as bright, there was a yellow tinge to the units. Like post above - I can always paint the oak if I really don't like it as it is not laquered or anything - it is more of a "raw" oak.
Thanks for all your opinions guys - I know it is a personal thing, but I like to hear other people's ideas too. Cheers. xx

Both kitchens look really nice. When we had ours done we went for white gloss because the room has not much natural light and I had learned from watching Sarah Beeney and co that the white gloss 'bounces' the available light around and I have to say it does work! (Don't forget to get that lighting that goes under the wall cupboards). So this is something to consider if your kitchen is at all dark. However we had dark worksurfaces and ceramic tiles on the floor, and pale tiles on the wall.

Do not find it at all difficult to keep clean, just a quick wipe occasionally. This was from MFI and no complaints about the quality or the fitters (although I think this does depend on what fitters you get as I know someone else who had a nightmare).

One thing you might want to bear in mind is this. My dad is thinking of buying a new kitchen and has been talking to a small supplier recently who warned him off white - the reason is that a customer recently complained that the units in his new white kitchen didn't match and were all different shades. When the doors were taken down and put on the floor, it was apparent that they were all exactly the same colour. The problem was that subtle differences in light and shade meant that they looked very different when they were in place, so it looked like the kitchen had been built out of spare parts that didn't really go.
  • I prefer the white one.
