I must admit-was worried about it getting dirty quickly....
had half thought of the fading but kind of thought it might not?!!
    oh bum bum bum
  • Well, maybe you need to ask more questions on this from the manufacturers. Maybe visit a few more kitchen stores.

And lets face it who is spending the most time in the kitchen? You or hubby? Who is cooking and cleaning? If its going to be you then be egoistic and think about yourself and what you want.

I did point out to him that he never cooks!! Thanks. I think I have been to every kitchen store around but budget is limiting me somewhat. We are having a wall knocked down to create a big kitchen/diner area and this is costing nearly £3k. I wonder if I am getting a bit too hung up on it. I am sure either will look good. If either was here when we moved in I'd be happy with it. x
  • Definately oak. You can't beat wood. if the table is a different colour you can put on a tablecloth

Hadn't thought of the fading problem - wonder if IKEA give a warranty against that - they do have a loooooooooooong guarantee - check if yours does the same!

    White.

It's more neutral and your kitchen will probably look bigger. It's a bit like the little black dress, more versatile. Not that you change your kitchen for a little black dress ...

  • with the white you will be constantly cleaning it, any marks stand out.... So defn. oak!

Every Tom, !!!!!! and Harry has a wood or wood effect kitchen these days. Dare to be different! Get what you want...get the white one....

The "mood" of the kitchen will depend on the colours you choose for your walls, handles and bits and pieces you have on display. It could be rather mannish if you choose black or steel paraphenalia, and grey walls, but oh so girlie if you go for pink walls and pink gingham curtains. Or go somewhere in between, say a cool aquamarine, or a jazzy citrus colour scheme. White is definitely colour's friend.

I have had a white kitchen in the past, it's not a big deal to keep clean - just as much work as any other kitchen - just wipe the front of the cabinets down once a week (or so) and wipe up splashes and spills as you go along.

White, White, White. Wood is boring!!!

Well ... if you get the oak one and after six months or so you hate it .... you can always paint it white. If you get the white one and hate it ... there's nothing you can do.
I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I just love kitchens!

i would definately go for oak. its looks warm and cosy. it will work lovely with the curtains you describe. but i dont like white, too clinical, my friend had white for years it eventually started yellowing. my kitchen is beech with black worktops, my advice on tiles is get as many samples as possible in different colours too. the worst thing about finishing our kitchen was the tile colours, they can be very deceiving when you get them home.

so, go for oak. itll be fab. xx
Just to win anything would be great!!
