Our dog has just started to do his business in th house while we are out, (he is going out before we leave him), can anyone recommend any products that we can use to clean the carpets, and take the smell away
Thanks for your help,

Bicarbonate of soda works a treat. Buy a large bag of it, sprinkle on top of the affected area, leave a while (preferable overnight) and then vacuum up.0

I use Simple Solution (Pets at Home stock it but I buy a 4 litre from Amazon and put in a spray bottle, as it's much cheaper and lasts ages). It removes all kinds of fresh animal stains (including blood and vomit) and others, also seeming to remove smell, as they don't go back to the same place to sniff or mark .
I once bought a really expensive product from Crufts and this was as good, probably better and much cheaper.
I always have a spray bottle to hand , as my boys are getting on and one does have accidents.0 -
Simple Solution is great, or lower cost options you may have around the house are biological washing powder, vinegar, or bicarbonate of soda (not all combined!)
You might want to look at the reasons behind soiling himself though - if it's only when you're out, and he shouldn't really need to be going, he might be suffering from a behavioural issue like separation anxiety (toileting indoors can often be a symptom). Recording him with a webcam when left could help give some indication. Health reasons could be another cause - so could be worth a vet trip, if you haven't scheduled one already.0 -
thanks all.
Dog is a rescue dog, appro. 3 years old, that we've had since just befor Xmas, He has only just started this the last few days, and is only left for 6hours at the most. He is locked in the kitchen with his bed, toys and we leave the radio on for him.No. 83 in £365.00 in 365 days 17/365

6 hours is not really 'only left', it's a LONG time. There would have been people around a lot more over Christmas so he's suddenly being left for a long time, and who knows what has happened in his history previously.0

6 hours, or 6 minutes - seperation anxiety is a bit like a phobia, not entirely rational. One of mine suffered it when we moved house and I couldn't even nip to the loo without her getting distressed initially0

We used a bio washing power with good results.
not judging, a rescue dog in a loving home is far better than the other thing.
Being left alone isn't great but there are things you can do to make things better for him though.
Can a friend/neighbour pop in for a while to let him out and to give him a bit of company? A dog walker maybe? xRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Leave a radio, or preferably some kind of recording with family voices on it, switched on, so he'll think you are in another room. A rescue near me uses radios to help kennelled dogs with stress.0

and leave him something to do such as a stuffed kong or a buster cube- but check that he knows how they work and that he won't chew them up.
generally speaking 4 hours is considered the longest time for a dog to be left alone- on a regular basisBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Also - a room is too big. Caging would be unacceptable for this length of time, but you might consider a pen. This becomes the "den", and is therefore a place that his instincts tell him not to soil. Make sure that he has food and water available, and things to do, and he should start to come around in a short period of time, and quite possibly immediately. Always make sure that he goes in calmly, comes out calmly, and goes straight outside when you get in.0
