Normally passports are returned by courier (DX Secure) but occasionally they do send them by Royal mail signed for.0

My friend received hers back on Tuesday and it was via courier, signed for. We did go to the Passport Office to get it urgently though, not sure if that makes a difference.Paddle No 21 :wave:0

I sent mine off the other day and there was an option to have it back by Royal Mail or pay about £3 to get it sent to be signed fortravelover0

I sent a renewal off last week, it arrived exactly a week later, by courier and signed for. Old passport came by Royal Mail the same day.
I also took self pictures on an iPhone in the photo booth and printed off a machine for about 20p and it was accepted!!!0 -
Sent mine off on Monday and received a text saying been despatched and due tomorrow.

Confused! Why would you receive your old passport back? I am sure the new one replaces old one and it's no longer valid.0

They always return the old one with a corner snipped off of the front cover. Historically I think that visas could still be valid in the old one but I don't know whether that's still the case.
I occasionally flip through my old passports to look at the stamps and reminisce.0
