Passport

Does British passport arrive back by courier, SD or just post?

Thanks

  • Normally passports are returned by courier (DX Secure) but occasionally they do send them by Royal mail signed for.
  • My friend received hers back on Tuesday and it was via courier, signed for. We did go to the Passport Office to get it urgently though, not sure if that makes a difference.

  • Mine came back via royal mail... No signature was required... I received my new shiny passport last week and my old passport the following day...

  • I sent mine off the other day and there was an option to have it back by Royal Mail or pay about £3 to get it sent to be signed for
    travelover
  • I sent a renewal off last week, it arrived exactly a week later, by courier and signed for. Old passport came by Royal Mail the same day.

I also took self pictures on an iPhone in the photo booth and printed off a machine for about 20p and it was accepted!!!

Confused! Why would you receive your old passport back? I am sure the new one replaces old one and it's no longer valid.

They always return the old one with a corner snipped off of the front cover. Historically I think that visas could still be valid in the old one but I don't know whether that's still the case.

I occasionally flip through my old passports to look at the stamps and reminisce.
