    you've been married for 26 years. he owes you far more respect than this and he needs to stop burying his head in the sand and deal with his debt now.

    imo, there's more debt than he's telling you. but the only way you'll find out is to sit him down and force him to be honest with you. that's not unreasonable, you've been together a long time and you've tied yourselves to each other. he's harming you in this.

    when he's honest with you, you can make a plan. until then, he's just going to keep burying his head in the sand. and whatever you pay off, he will rack back up.

    If you try talking to him and he still wont discuss what he owes could you obtain his credit report from one of the credit reference agencies?

    If you're married, then his finances affect you as you are financially linked. If he won't give details I would not think it was dishonest to say you are going to obtain a credit report. It's important for you to know, as his legal spouse.
