O/S Daily Friday 12 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark, seems drier underfoot but the temperature has dropped so expecting a heavy frost this morning.

Dinner last night was HM quiche – made the pastry which appeared to be one of my better efforts – got the pastry rolled out and put into dish and then baked it blind – got it out of the oven and the sides had collapsed – the exact same thing happened the last time I made a pastry case – not really sure why this is happening all of a sudden? I do have some baking beans that I could have put in but didn’t – will try those next time. I was able to salvage it and use it as I had intended but confused as to why this has started happening. I had plenty of pastry left – so made a dozen mince pies too. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk I’ll probably have mushroom omelette and salad.

I was more productive yesterday than I thought I’d be – was fine when I got up but then quite early on my mood just crashed and I was close to just not really doing/achieving anything but managed to set myself some small targets and wrote them down on a “to do” list – (just all the normal chores really) but got motivated enough to start then managed to do what I would expect to get done normally – I also managed to strip DS1’s bed. I got the dirty wash basket empty – but now looks like there’s another couple of loads – work/school stuff, DS2 stripped his bed and I want to strip our bed today too. I sorted through a set of drawers in my bedroom also, and managed to find rubbish that I should have thrown away – so that set of drawers tidier and less cluttered. I also realised at nearly lunchtime that it was my nieces’ birthday yesterday and my best friend’s daughter’s tomorrow – had completely forgotten about them – so had to visit MrT to get cards and prezzies – which turned out to be giftcards – couldn’t find anything suitable that would be ok to post – but I sat in the car wrote the cards and got them sent off straight away, hoping they arrive today. Got all the ironing done too aswell as the making of pastry and mince pies etc – so all in all from being a non productive yuk day it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Mood a little better this morning – I’ll be heading to the SM early so I can get that done before it gets busy and manic – will then crack on with the chores at home and thinking I may do some more cooking/baking. I also found a ready made frozen apple pie in the freezer – so I’ll be cooking and serving that on Sunday for dessert as we have the outlaws coming for lunch – I also have a pack of frozen raspberries in the freezer, some meringue nests that need using up – so Sunday I’ll offer a choice of apple pie or meringues with fresh raspberries and cream – only thing I need to buy is the cream. Main course will be roast chicken and roast pork with all the usual trimmings etc.

Have good Fridays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

I got up early this morning, thanks to a text message at 5o'clock telling me I was nearing my data limit on my phone, really? Like I needed to know that at 5a!
Anyway, hubby has a cuppa in bed, I've had porridge and a cuppa, I've folded the washing and found another baby blanket pattern I fancy trying.
I'm going to get dressed now, go and help with the school run and then go to work.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all.

An early post from me. I am up early this morning. 'Ginge' has to be at the vets for 8. She is due for her op at 9. She is blissfully anaware but Mum is dreadfully nervous.

I am hoping Daddy will be home tonight to pick her up as she is a bit too big to carry if she needs carrying. Either that or my Son In Law has offered to pick her up.

She's been bathed and groomed. Her nails trimmed. She is in fine form.

I'm glad she's having the lumps removed. The one on her rear end has grown since I last bathed her.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday I went up to bed really early, read for a while and then fell asleep. I've had about 10 hours sleep. No idea why but I must have needed it.

I didn't go out anywhere in the end as I persuaded myself against it.

Today I'm off back down to Glasgow for one night, I need to pick up something from Mum which I forgot last week. And I'll do her Saturday shopping for her. She's 88 in March so slowing down now.

Snow is forecast in parts of Scotland, hopefully not Glasgow!

I'll take a couple of paperbacks up to the docs surgery for the sale corner. The money raised goes towards things for patients in the hospital.

Judi - hope all's OK with the furry op.

Right, off for first cup of tea and to face the day.

    Happy Friday everyone.

Judi - hope the op goes well for the little doggie.

I have washing ready to put on the line, hope the weather stays as it says on the forecast. I was going to strip the bed but will leave that till tomorrow. Other washing all folded, really must tackle the ironing!

Got a letter yesterday saying that the tumble drier has been recalled, not bad to say I've had it for about 5 years, registered the details and will hear from them in due course. Not much chance of anything happening to it as it's never on!

I have to go to a basketball festival today which is a bit of a blow as I have so much work to do, still, it will have to wait. Fridays are always manic as it is, maybe it will be good to be away for a while!

Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX
  • Morning all. Great Runrig concert last night (with PIL and Sister/BIL as their Christmas presents) Just very loud. We were right next to the speakers. Gers No snow here but very icy.

Got to get DH off to work. Somehow the rota has him in surgery in 2 places and doing a ward round this morning. Oh these underworked Dr's.

Amazing how all these NHS bosses are now saying they did not support imposition (might have something to do with the fact that a large number of Dr's who had applied to start training with their trusts this year withdrew their applications yesterday afternoon!) But I'm just cynical.

nmlc You made me feel tired reading what you achieved yesterday. I'd count that as a REALLY good day. Well done in getting over the mood slump. A skill I really need to cultivate.

    Have a good day all.

  • Morning all. Sneaking around here as I don't want to waken the DGDs up this early. They were all later to bed as no school today so I'm hoping they sleep in a bit. The eldest (11) is meeting a friend in town at lunchtime to eat in Burger King so just the two younger ones to feed and amuse till DD collects them after work.

The Leeds appt yesterday was one of the quickest ever. The injection was out of the fridge, ready and waiting for a change. Mr TA was very tired when we got back home. It was a bit much for him straight after the treatment in Liverpool. Hopefully a good rest over the weekend will perk him up a bit.

Hope the doggy op goes well JUDI. (((HUGS))) to all wanting/needing them and take care xx

    Morning everyone,

My day off today but was up early and took the girls out for their morning walk, thats one thing am really missing with being back at work. It's a clear, bright but cold morning, the grass is crispy and white, the farmer ploughed two of the fields yesterday with the big one next to our house obviously next. Love watching the birds that follow the tractor.

This morning we are going out for breakfast, have a 20% money off voucher for the farm shop so will use that, then off to BuryStEd to do the food shopping. Am still looking for some work shoes so might have a mooch round and see if there is anything left in the sales.

Judi hope your furry friends op goes well.

    Have a good everyone x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I feel like something the cat has dragged in this morning after a night where I have been in pain with my jaw. Hubby is home today so I will be going back to bed once he gets up. The girls have left for school ok, quite happy in fact as they break up for half term today. We have no plans but I am sure there will be lots of sleeping involved :D.I am still not 'right' but I feel a bit better than the other day.

I am making a curry for tea as it's quick and easy and will have a quick tidy up before having a shower and getting dressed.

Judi, hope your dog's op goes well this morning.
Glad Mr TA's treatment was a bit more organised this time. Hope he soon feels better.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
