  • Thanks for all the replies, it's much appreciated.

Instead of using it for Next I will use it for utility bills so I am able to use at least half of the credit on the card a month.
  • Quick update, got the card today and set up the direct debit for the whole amount each month. I will be using the card to pay my district heating bill which comes to £85 per month (+a small surcharge for using a credit card) and I may add something in the near future.

£500 limit at the moment, is that reasonable for a first credit card?
  • In the sub prime market, it's normal to high.

Soon after applying for a vanquis cc, I had lots of calls from random companies, after googling the numbers it was apparent that vanquis are selling your details. I recommend using a throwaway number if you can. The card itself was fine, and was no problem cancelling it.
  • I will certainly keep an eye on my incoming calls, thanks for the heads up!

Who to? How do you know Vanquis were involved? You will get a couple of calls about their payment protection scheme and asking if you want to sign up to Experian, but that's not selling to random companies, both will be from within Vanquis.
  • Got my first statement today, it says that I need to pay a minimum of £5 on the 14th April, however, I set up a direct debit to clear the full balance and not the minimum, what has happened here?

I get regular calls from Vanquis trying to sell me their protection insurance for a few quid a month. Got so annoying I just blocked their number.
