I've been with First Direct before, many years ago, with a joint a/c. Would it be possible to open an a/c in my name only and still get the £150 for switching?

We can only offer this to people who haven't previously held any account with first direct.

That's from their T&C's so the answer would be no.

Although bizarrely I held an ISA a few years ago and then closed it. For some reason when I applied for a current account they said I would qualify for the bonus for switching despite it being completely against their own T&Cs. I got them to confirm it on the recording of the phone call to be certain and it was paid (although I had to chase up).
