TV channel change delay !!!

Just recently when I flip from channel to channel via the remote there is about a 5 second delay whereas it always used to be instant. I just get a blue blank screen during the 5 seconds before the new channel kicks in - it also appears the new channel seems a tad darker for a few moments as well - any ideas ??

I thought it's never 'instant' for the digital TV, at least far less 'instant' than it was for analogue TV. It takes 3-4 seconds on my PC with a TV card (pretty old one though) - with the same black screen in-between.

Usually when this happens on our TVs they benefit from a re-tune.

The usual delay between switching channels is caused by having a device that can record or allow pausing/rewinding of live tv.

thats because these will record the channel you are watching and you actually watch the recording rather than the live channel. There needs to be a few seconds of recording before you can actually start watching it, which is where the delay comes from when changing channel
  • I've checked all the connections and done a retune but the problem is still there - I say a problem suppose waiting 5 seconds isn't the end of the world but until very recently the change from channel to channel was virtually instant - thanks for all your comments though
  • Some TVs have a restore to factory settings as well as a retune. If so try that also.

Probably takes a few seconds for the info on the channel change to go through to GCHQ these days.

You don't say how you are viewing TV, but if you have Sky have you recently set it to constantly record each channel you view?
Enabling the "instant rewind" feature of Sky+ would account for this delay when channel hopping. It's probably also the case on other PVR recorders from other providers…
