    Thank you, he already has most of those at his yearly check with the GP and nurse, and he has his eyes checked yearly too. Just no course to go on.

    The other thing worth watching over a cup of tea if you have 20 mins to spare is this - explains the physiological response to carbohydrates in lay terms. You are right to go low carb.

    It was about 9 months before I got onto a diet forum, it ran for 6 weeks and was very good, a lot is learned on there for those that are interested.
    As others have mentioned the processed food is the main poison, everything else is allowable just in moderation of portion size.
  • I was told by my practice nurse, no salt, no sugar, no fat, no carbs, no alcohol. I received details of low carb course to go on but was told by my Dr not to go on it but to go on the Cambridge Diet.

    Not sure about this diet, but porridge is v high in carbs (albeit low GI). On that basis I avoid it, and other cereals....although it took some time to kick the habit*! Would something with protein in it be possible instead?

    *whilst a student I would regularly eat 3 bowls of cereal a day as meals, but that was over 20 years ago when I believed they were good for you.

    I had higher blood pressure for a number of years, not seriously high, but not normal. About 2 years ago now I went low carb to lose weight. The last time I had my blood pressure checked, about 6 months ago, BP was normal. I was practically dancing out of the surgery, I lost over a stone and sorted my BP problems at the same time going low carb.

    I don't follow the recipes verbatim bizzylizzy. there are a lot of ingredients in them that i wouldn't normally buy/have. What i do is adapt the principle of the diet with my own food.

    Anything with eggs is easy. Meat/chicken with veg is easy. Mushroom grilled with cheese on etc etc

    I haven't had porridge since i started it no.

    I'd say just adapt to suit what you like. I do a daily food diary on myfitnesspal so I can keep a check on the calories. So as long as you are low carb/high fat within the 800 cals you should be ok.

    Thanks, I think I'll have to do that, I'm going to work out a week or two of meals and then start next week with those meal plans to follow. I was finding it a bit overwhelming as we normally eat quite simply.
