But can you actually view the camera locally over Wi-FI and what is "For one thing my laptop (a recent one) will not scan the codes in."?
the camera will work hard wired but as soon as it goes wireless all is lost.
the system asks for the computer to scan a code for the camera to work and my laptop will not scan the code. My laptop is fairly new so it not the laptop that is not working.
The instructions in the box were really non existant. It just goes on how to view through the phone..... well if you cant get the camera up and working that information is useless0 -
If this is the correct camera - http://www.swann.com/us/swads-446cam - then it looks like you need to install an app on your tablet or phone and then point the camera at a barcode it displays. It looks like it also needs an ethernet connection at that point.
There appears to be no other setup required - I'm guessing the app is capable of programming the camera with the correct SSID and password. I've had a wifi printer which did this when a PC program was run but have no idea exactly how it works.
The "cloud" in the name means you won't need to set up port forwarding as this type of camera works through a third party server.
Have you read the setup instructions that came with it yourself?0
