    My average speed is always quite low considering the way I drive. On my golf 2.0 tdi my long term average speed is 32mph. I typically drive 80% motorways and would consider myself a fast driver, 80 on the motorway is me taking it easy.

    The 1.9tdi was probably the best diesel lumps Vag built, I doubt the 1.6 would beat it for economy no matter what the tests will tell you.

    Off subject but you got to love the PD engine.. the 2.0 Common rail is lovely and smooth but you cant beat the PD for fuel consumption and low down power..

    We can thank emission laws for that one, was probably the best car I have owned and ever will.

    Indeed. I'm on my second one just now. With a few modifications and in a small car, they can be quite fun when you put the foot down and good mpg when you're being sensible.
